Oct. 2015: 650 ml bottle, from the Norwegian importer. ABV is 8%. Cloudy deep golden to brownish colour, moderate to low white head. Strong hoppy aroma, notes of pine, spruce and tropical fruits. Distinctly hoppy flavour too, medium dry, notes of pine and grapefruit, hints of crushed white grapes and tropical fruits. Bitter aftertaste. Very good. Would certainly buy again.

Sep. 2018: 440 ml can, from Vinmonopolet. ABV is 7.5%. Slightly hazy pale yellow colour, moderate white head. Lovely aroma of fruity American hops, notes of tropical fruits and citrus, a hint of spruce. Fruity and piney flavour, medium sweet, with a bitter finish.

May 2014: 650 ml bottle, from the Norwegian importer. ABV is 7.5%. Ingredients include lemongrass, coriander, kaffir lime, lemon and grapefruit peel. Hazy golden colour, moderate white head. Aroma of lemongrass, coriander and citrus fruits / citrus peel. Spicy and citrussy flavour, with distinct notes of said ingredients. Hoppy and spicy finish. Refreshing and enjoyable. Would buy again.

On tap at Cardinal, Stavanger. Opaque yellow colour, large white head. Lovely aroma of various tropical fruits, also hints of citrus. Juicy flavour with the same elements as the aroma. Very enjoyable.

On tap at Cardinal, Stavanger. Brown colour, moderate head, slightly off-white. Malty aroma, notes of toffee and caramel. Malty flavour too, not too sweet, a hint of toffee again, a slight fruitiness, moderate earthy hops in the finish. Well balanced.

July 2019: 750 ml clear bottle, from Vinmonopolet Stavanger Verksgata. ABV is 9%. Deep golden colour, pours moderately sparkling with a moderate white head that actually lasts a while. Weird "perfumed" aroma, I wonder which apple varieties they have used here? Semi dry flavour of apples, again these weird "perfumed" and soapy notes. Don't think I'll buy this one again, there are better Norwegian ciders at Vinmonopolet.

Clear signal red colour, pours moderately sparkling with a small and shortlived pink head. Aroma of apples and strawberries, a hint of rhubarb. Medium sweet flavour of apples, strawberries and rhubarb.

500 ml can. Bought by mistake in a London store when I was in a hurry just before closing time - thought it was an unrated beer! Fizzy sourish stuff. Watery mouthfeel. Gave me a heartburn - and I didn’t even finish the can! Industrial ciders like this one seem utterly pointless to me. Avoid!

330 ml bottle, as Geiranger Djupvatnet Baltic Porter, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 7.2%, IBU 32. Very dark brown colour, moderate beige head. Aroma of roast malts, chocolate and some caramel. Roast malts in the flavour, not too sweet, notes of dark chocolate, sharpish bittering hops in the aftertaste.

Draught at Café t'Arendsnest, Amsterdam. I expected of some reason this to be a Dutch copy of English cask ales, but it has a more yeasty and spicy flavour than any English brew I've had, and is also more carbonated. (But not as carbonated as Belgian ales). Flavour is otherwise dominated by rather bitter hops (but not as bitter as the barman made me expect). The colour is light brown, slightly hazy. You'd think the ABV was higher than it actually is. It is not a bad brew, but I'd prefer most English ales / bitters to this one. Still it's nice to find Dutch alternatives to the inevitable macrobrews

Bottle, at RBESG 2007 in Glasgow, Grand Tasting. Beautiful chestnut colour, large off-white head. Very malty aroma with strong notes of bakery. Malty flavour, loads of caramel, moderate hops.

500 ml bottle, as Schneider Weisse Tap 4 Mein Grünes (new name), courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Brewed with organic ingredients. ABV is 6.2%. Hazy brownish golden colour, big head, slightly off-white. Strong and lovely aroma of ripe bananas and cloves. Soft mouthfeel. The flavour is reasonably malty for a hefeweizen, with distinct notes of cloves. Very moderate hops. The alcohol is well hidden. Good beer.

Bottle conditioned, a dusty 500 ml bottle at Plan B, Copenhagen, august 2005 - "best before" date was Oct. 2004! Tasted definitely a bit "off". Black colour, low head. Weak roasty aroma and flavour. Sourish and thin. Very disappointing, as my expectations were high. Will need to rerate a fresh bottle or cask.

(275 ml corked bottle.) Bottled in 2004 ( I couldn’t wait). Dark copper colour, slightly hazy, large tan head. Intense and beguiling aroma of raspberries and blackberries, spices, oak and vintage port wine or sherry. Flavour is a bit raw in the edges, as expected for a bottle this fresh. There’s plenty of sweet (but not cloying) flavour elements of malts, caramel, raisins, plum pudding, spices and old sherry. Just enough hops to stand up to the sweetness. Warming mouthfeel - I suspect the ABV had already crept well above the stated 9%. This beer really is something special! Now, I wish I had a few more bottles available for cellaring - and the character to keep them for a few years!
