2376 Liefmans Frambozen Belgium Fruit Lambic 4.4

June 21, 2007 The Beerbistro (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
375ml bottle
4.50% ABV
$15.35
My particular beer was a Liefmans Frambozenbier, 375ml, 4.5% abv, and wrapped in a paper wrapper. This poured a beautiful maroon colour right out of the bottle with a beautiful raspberry aroma. The mouthfeel was crisp with some carbonation on the tongue. The beer started with a malty flavour with a lot of raspberry in it and finished with a crisp taste with a hint of raspberry. A truly wonderful experience for a fruit beer

June 21, 2007 The Beerbistro (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
250ml bottle
4.10% ABV
$5.90
The beer was poured by the waiter. It had a strong unmistakably strawberry aroma that captured me right away. It was a dark red in the glass. The mouthfeel was very champagne like. The taste was very good. A truly enjoyable beer.

August 7, 1997
Gift
341ml bottle
5.0% ABV
$0.00
A beer for a summer vacation, and one of the earliest 'craft' beers I tried. This beer had an aroma that reminded more of rye than wheat. It was a nice golden colour when poured. It is smooth to the tongue and is smooth tasting. I would certainly recommend this beer to somebody wanting to try a decent wheat beer without paying through the nose.

2379 Carlsberg Light (Canada) Canada Light / Lite Lager 3.1

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

September 17, 1987
Gift
355ml bottle
4.0% ABV
$0.00
Brewed in Canada by the Labatt Brewing Company Limited
For a light beer, this my preference so far. Much better than any other Light beer I've tried. The aroma here is similar to the main brand, so much so that I am unable to tell the difference. Again, like the main brand, it is golden in colour with a mouthfeel that is not offensive to the tongue. However, the flavour has slightly less bite than the parent brew.

2380 Carlsberg Lager (Export) Denmark Lager 2.6

February 6, 1987
Gift
341ml bottle
5.0% ABV
$0.00
This is a classic beer. I remember the commercials as a child with the famed Carlsberg Clydesdales. Haven't seen those in years, makes me wonder if they still have those. This beverage has an alright aroma, typical beer aroma. The colour is a nice golden colour. It has a smooth mouthfeel. The taste is bland, similar to other beers of the style. One thing of note is that this beer tastes better cold than at room temperature.

September 30, 2006
Gift
341ml bottle
5.00% ABV
$0.00
This was the free beer provided by a participant at the 2006 hockey pool. Decent aroma, but nothing to write home about. Slightly malty. The colour was an almost reddish colour. It felt 'perky' on the tongue, but the favour didn't thrill me.

2382 Heineken Lager Netherlands Pale Lager 2.3

Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

August 1, 1993
Gift
330ml bottle
5.0% ABV
$0.00
Another from the list of 'alright' tasting beers. Heineken is a beer that I expected more from. With it's place among the classic beers of the world secure, let's get down to the review. The colour is a straw gold colour that is representative of so many North American style lagers. The aroma is slightly hoppy and not too overpowering. The taste is pretty mild with nothing to really distinguish it from anything else. Not a bad beer, but it isn't a favourite of mine either.

March 1, 1990
Boo Sports Bar, The (Guelph, Ontario, Canada – University of Guelph, University Centre)
341ml bottle
5.50% ABV
$2.00
This was the first ice beer that I tried and I was pleasantly surprised. It had a floral aroma that I was unable to identify but was pleasant to the nostrils. The colour was beer like, a clear golden colour. It was very crisp to the taste with no clear identifiable flavours. A beer that goes down too damn easy.

October 1, 1990
Unknown
330ml bottle
4.7% ABV
This is a nice beer. I went searching for Lowenbrau one evening and the clerk suggested this as an alternative. It is a nice golden colour with a light malty aroma. A very smooth beer with a very smooth taste that goes down easy, but has just enough bite to make you appreciate this beer. I did go back to the store the next day and tip the clerk for his suggestion.

October 24, 1999
Don Cherry’s Restaurant (Milton, Ontario, Canada)
341ml bottle
4.6% ABV
$2.60
To me, this is the definition of beer coloured and beer flavoured water. The aroma is very weak. The colour I've only seen before in toilets. And the taste is watery. Like Budweiser, it amazes me how many people order this beer instead of the multitude of great tasting treats in Canadian bars.

2386 Newcastle Brown Ale United Kingdom Brown Ale 2.4

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 4

June 15, 1990
Woolwich Arms, The (Guelph, Ontario, Canada – 176 Woolwich Street)
592ml draught
4.70%
$4.70
This beer pours a dark brown colour into the glass with not a lot of head. The aroma is not all that strong which surprised me given the strong colouration. The taste had a sugary tinge to it that made the beer unpleasant to me. This is not a beer that I will try again in the near future.

May 1, 1990
Woolwich Arms, The (Guelph, Ontario, Canada – 176 Woolwich Street)
592ml draught
4.30%
$2.25
Another British ale that just didn't please my palate (yet my friends tell me that someday, my ale will come!). This beer has a darker colour than I normally like (I prefer golden nectars) and a weak aroma. It went down very smooth however. It felt thick in the mouth, very little carbonation. The flavour was alright, very malty.
March 3, 2008
LCBO Outlet #255 (Milton, Ontario, Canada – Main / Bronte)
440ml can
4.30% ABV
Now that I am several months into my beer hobby, I have decided to re-rate some beers that I didn't care for the first time around. The beer poured a beautiful translucent red colour with a thick creamy off-white head. The aroma is still very weak with no discernable odours. The mouthfeel was full-bodied and creamy. The flavour was roasted malt, a little nutty, and a little subtle hoppiness on the back of the tongue. This beer goes down very smoothly (as do a lot of British beers).

June 30, 1990
O’Toole’s (Milton, Ontario, Canada – 55 Ontario Street North)
592ml draught
5.0% ABV
$2.50
The beer poured a nice golden hue with an off-white head that lingered for a while. The aroma was nothing spectacular, slightly malty but long lasting. Like other ales I have tried it was slightly thick on the tongue with weak carbonation. The flavour was mild, not strong, not bitter as I had expected

2389 Coors Light United States Light / Lite Lager 1.8

Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 3

September 8, 1988
Gift
355ml bottle
4.2% ABV
$0.00
Version: Coors Light brewed by Molson Breweries of Canada
This is my favourite American light beer, although that isn't saying much as I don't like light beer in general. The Silver bullet pours a pale yellow colour with little or no head. What aroma there is, is very weak in nature making it difficult to classify. The taste is beer-like witrh a weak aftertaste. The mouthfeel is watery with some hints of carbonation. Not a great tasting beer, but, better than Budweiser and Coors.

November 18, 1988
Gift
355ml bottle
5.0% ABV
$0.00
Version: Coors Banquet Beer brewed by Molson Breweries of Canada
An unimpressive entry from one of the big three. The beer is a very light yellow colour in the glass, with a very thin white head that quickly dissipates. The aroma dissipates as the beer is poured from the bottle into the glass. The taste reminds me of burnt sugar and this taste lingers for quite a while after the beer is gone. The mouthfeel is too watery as well. This is the only beer I can think of where the 'Lite' version is superior in taste. Not a beer I would recommend to my enemies let alone my friends

June 1, 1990
Woolwich Arms, The (Guelph, Ontario, Canada – 176 Woolwich Street)
500ml bottle
5.00%
$4.70
After going almost 20 years without sampling this, I recently tried it on tap at a local Toronto eatery and found it to be an alright brew. The colour was a translucent brownish-red colour, with an off-white head that didn't stay long. The aroma was slightly malty and sweet but weak. The flavour was slightly malty at the start but became better as I got closer to the bottom. Like other ales I have tried it was thick on the tongue with little carbonation. This is one of those brews that when provided a list on tap...if I've previously tried them all.....ocassionally I'll pick this one.

April 9. 2022
LCBO Outlet #649 (Milton, Ontario, Canada – Sobey’s Plaza)
473ml can
5.0% ABV
Canned On: January 10, 2022
$2.70
The beer pours a translucent gold colour with a generous white head which lasts a while before receding to a thin film on top. Lacing is generous. The aroma is bready malts, yeast, and herbal hops. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is grainy malt and light bitter hops. Original score upgraded a bit.

original review
341ml bottle
5.0% ABV
Molson Canadian, what beer's all about. Or so the commercials said. This was the first beer I ever tried. It is an alright beer to grow your chops on. This beer is a golden colour with a white head that lasts a while. It has a smell of malt and corn. It has a decent taste replete with a strong aftertaste. It has a very crisp mouthfeel with the right amount of carbonation for my palate. I think the best memories I have of this beer are all those commercials in the 80s that had bikini clad women.........what man with a beer belly doesn't like bikini clad women?

July 9, 1998
Toby’s (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – First Canadian Place)
592ml Draught
5.00% ABV
$3.50
This is the beer that convinced me that Ales are not for me. I think the aroma is alright, and as for appearance, there is something about beer that looks like coffee that turns me off. Even the flavour wasn't that appealing to me. I found this to be a slightly bitter beverage. Even the mouthfeel felt very thick and strong with little in the way of carbonation. I'm the only person I know who doesn't really like Guinness so it's not you people...it's me.

2394 Miller High Life United States Pale Lager 1.7

Aroma: 3 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 2 | Overall: 3

Brewed in Canada by the Molson Breweries Limited
September 15, 1987
Gift
341ml bottle
5.0% ABV
$0.00
There is not a lot to say about this beer that is good, not for me anyway. The beer is a nice light gold colour that is reminiscent of American lagers. There is no discernable smell to speak of nor is there any discernable taste. The mouthfeel is very watery with hints of carbonation. Overall this is not a beer that I would try again, nor is it a beer that I would recommend to others.. It gets a 3 overall simply because they had the Bottom Bottle Opener at one time. Unfortunately the case we got contained bottles that had obviously been used many times before because the glass around the opener had been well chipped/worn away meaning that we needed the bottle opener anyway.

January 1, 1991
Boo Sports Bar, The (Guelph, Ontario, Canada – University of Guelph, University Centre)
355ml bottle
5.0% ABV
$2.45
This was my original favourite American beer (so far out of the limited swill I have tried). I tried it a few times here in Canada (brewed by Molson under license) and was pleasantly surprised. After moving to Memphis Tennessee, I tried it there, and was even more pleasantly surprised, an American brewed beverage that was better than it's Canadian brewed counterpart (unlike Budwesier, Coors, Coors Light, and Miller High Life). For a long time, this was the one American beer I came back to from time to time. The aroma is pleasant with some slight malty tones. The colour is a light golden colour similar to straw. The taste is slightly malty with some grassy undertones. It is very crisp on the tongue with some mild carbonation. A nice refreshing beer for an American macrobrew.

March 11, 2015
Another beer being revisted on Cheapie Wednesday. The beer pours a translucent medium gold colour with a short-lived snow white bubbly head. The aroma is grainy malts, vomit, and cooked vegetables. The mouthfeel is weak to medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is not that good and comparable to Canadian stock ales with milky cereal notes and metallic finishes.

September 1, 1993
Location Unknown (Memphis, Tennessee, USA)
355ml bottle
5.0% ABV
$0.00
It's unfortunate that 2 is the lowest choice available, otherwise I would have given straight 1's to Milwaukee's Best, and four 1's and a 2 to this swill. This brew was the laughingstock at my graduate school department. I avoided it as long as I could but alas, I did eventually try it. It was rank right out of the bottle, and thankfully it had a more yellowish tinge than Milwaukee's Best..........and that's a very minor thankfully.

Re-Review
Brewed in Canada by Stroh Canada / Sleeman Brewing and Malting Company
473ml can
4.9% ABV (as written on can)
Canned On: September 8, 2021
LCBO Outlet #649 (Milton, Ontario, Canada – Sobey’s Plaza)
April 7, 2022
$2.15
A more experienced beer reviewer’s review! The beer pours a translucent straw gold colour with a huge fluffy white head that lingers as rocky islands for several minutes. The aroma is stale grains, herbal hops, and vomit. This beer does not smell good. The mouthfeel is thin and carbonation is average. The taste is just as bad as the aroma. Thirty minutes after finishing this…..it is still ravaging my tongue! My score has been adjusted slightly! (1.0 -> 1.3)
The mouthfeel is very watery with few hints of any carbonation. Overall this is not a beer that I would try again, nor is it a beer that I would recommend to others. This beer led to my worst beer experience ever. I was given this at a bar in Memphis Tennessee. It was clear enough that I could read the newspaper through the full glass. No aroma to speak of, and very little flavour. I asked the waitress what it was. She replied, It's 'Milwaukee's Best'. I replied that if that was Milwaukee's best, I would hate to taste their worst. I was promptly asked to leave the bar.

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

330ml bottle
5.0% ABV
Guelph, Ontario, Canada
June 1, 1992
$1.50
I had heard many many great things about Beck's, so naturally I had to try one. Unfortunately, I was not able to add any great comments. This is just an alright beer. The colour is a nice translucent golden colour, the aroma was neither appealing or repulsive with a slight malty smell. The flavour was mild with some grassiness. The mouthfeel was smooth and crisp with just the right amount of carbonation.

The beer pours a very pale straw colour with a bubbly white head which disappeared in mere seconds. Considering it was canned less than a month ago, that surprises me. There was no lacing. The aroma is grains and herbal hops. Not much else. The mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is grass and rice. I can actually taste the rice! I didn’t like this beer the first couple of times I tried it (the Labatt version in 1987 and the American version in 1992), and it won’t be a regular for me, but it really isn’t all that bad. I can see why billions and billions drink it. Score adjusted up to 1.9

Original Review
341ml bottle
5.0% ABV
Guelph, Ontario, Canada
January 21, 1987 (Canadian Version) / August 16, 1992 (American version)
I have had two versions of this beer, the Anheuser-Busch brewed version in the bars of Memphis, Tennessee, and the "brewed in Canada by Labatt under license...." I'll take the Canadian version hands down. Sadly, the Canadian version sucks too. For a beer that is as heavily advertised as it is, and sells as much as it does, the rating here says it all. This is America's finest pisswater (Labatt Blue is Canada's finest pisswater). It amazes me when I go out with friends, there is always one who orders Bud. Take a gamble people, try one of the beers on tap you've never heard of....they're great (with all due respect to Tony the Tiger). This is one of those beers I will go out of my way to avoid. Having it in your fridge is a great way to get taken off my Christmas card list!

This is a beer I would definitely recommend to friends
