750ml bottle
7.0% ABV
Milton LCBO Outlet #2 (Milton, Ontario, Canada)
February 21, 2008
The beer poured a translucent (when held to the light) reddish brown colour with a large, long lasting, rocky head. The aroma was malty and yeasty with some hints of dark fruit. The mouthfeel was full-bodied with mild carbonation. The flavour was sweet malt, with some yeast, and a small amount of bitterness. A great beer.

16 oz draught
10.0% ABV
I tried this on draught on April 11, 2008 at "Smokeless Joe's" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a dark reddish brown with a thick, long lasting white head. The aroma was thick with yeast and some sweet caramel malt. The mouthfeel was thick, creamy, and mildly carbonated. The flavour was brown sugar sweet, with some yeasty hints. Not quite as sickly sweet as a Samichlaus or Hardy's.

July 12, 2007
The Beerbistro (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
330ml bottle
11.30% ABV
Bottled On: Unknown
$16.50
Unfortunately I can't rate it as high as the St. Bernardus Abt 12 I had last night. Maybe had I tried them in the reverse order things may have been different. Anyway, this poured a dark reddish-brown with a small head (the first contrast with SS). The head disappeared rather quickly. The aroma was very similar with robust bread and malt tones as well as plums. It felt great on the tongue with a full-bodied feel. As for the taste, I'm not sure where it failed when compared to the SB, but it just failed to measure up. Possibly the higher alcohol content which I noticed more in this brew.

July 11, 2007
Bar Volo (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
330ml bottle
10.5% ABV
Bottled On: Unknown
$11.80
I was very nervous about trying this....high alcohol content, dark brown, yada yada yaada. Well, try it I did. It poured a dark brown into the glass with a small head that lasted throughout the entire beer. The aroma was thick with bread and hops, and some fruit. It was silky smooth on the tongue with a full-bodied feel. The taste.........unlike any beer I've tasted before. There was bread, and malt...and hops. The alcohol was not noticeable on the tongue.....but I felt it going down....and this is one damn fine beer!

341ml bottle
10.5% ABV
The Beerbistro (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
May 20, 2010
The beer poured a very dark brown, almost metallic in colour with a very thin white head. The aroma was roasted malt, molasses, and plenty of dark fruit. The mouthfeel was full-bodied, slightly creamy, with medium carbonation. The flavour was sweet malt, candy sugar, and dark fruit. Exceptional.

June 25, 2009
Bar Volo (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – 587 Yonge Street)
330ml bottle
10.2% ABV
$41.04
Several Toronto beer bars have banded together to get several cases and sell it - and I grabbed the chance. The beer poured an opaque dark brown with an off white head...not near as dark as the St. Bernardus or Rochefort quads. The aroma knocked my socks off....fresh figs and plums, with warm yeast and sweet malt. More than satisfying. The mouthfeel was full-bodied, with mild carbonation - yet a bit thinner than other quads. The flavour again was quite complex and full of flavours when compared to St. Bernardus, and didn't have the alcohol taste and feel I get with the Rochefort. The bitter aftertaste was even pleasant after the sweet malt and fruit tones. On aroma and taste alone, this is the best beer I have ever had. I'm knocking off points for appearance and mouthfeel as the beer was 'lighter' than I was expecting.

The aroma was malt, yeast, and plenty of dark fruit tones like plums. The mouthful was full-bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was plums and licorice with a hint of hoppy bitterness. An excellent beer.

650ml bottle
10.0% ABV
The Beerbistro (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
January 6, 2010
$28.65
This is my first beer of 2010. The beer poured a semi-translucent orange brown with a thin tan coloured head...very light for a Quad. The aroma was very weak, but did have some malt and yeast. The mouthfeel was medium bodied, and mildly carbonated. The flavour was sweet malt, sugar, yeast, and plums. A good beer, but not in the same class as Trappist/Belgian quad

Aroma is fresh bread, dark fruit, yeast, sugar, and weak spices. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with above average carbonation. Flavour is bread, light fruit and spices. I do prefer the regular Gulden Draak to this, but still quite good.

Vigourous swirlking results in a longer lasting head that laces well. The aroma is string on the alcohol with notes of dark fruit, molasses, and woody notes. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is sweet with notes of raisins, plums, and molasses but the alcohol is noticeable in the finish. Still, an excellent beer.

The aroma is dark fruit, chocolate, caramel, and yeast. Definitely detecting some Quad notes here. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, creamy, with ample carbonation. The flavour starts off sweet with notes of caramel and molasses, with some roasted malt character, some spice, almost peppery in fact, followed by yeast and a chocolatey note. Lots of flavours in this once it warms.

Eventually, it appeared more like a brownish cream soda colour. The aroma was Belgian yeast, roasted malt, candy sugar, and dark fruit. The mouthfeel was medium to full bodied, and highly carbonated. The flavour was plums and raisins, burnt sugar, and roasted malt notes. An excellent Canadian version of an Belgian Quadrupel

The beer pours a turbid Indian red colour with a short lived (and by short lived I mean seconds) white cap. The ring around the edge does last forever though. The aroma is tart chrries, yeast, sour grains, and an unrecognizable funky smell. The mouthfeel is puckering, medium to full bodied, with ample amounts of carbonation. The flavour is both very tart, and very fruity. The cherries aren’t as pronounced in the flavour as they are in the aroma but still there. Some grains and yeast are also present but this is a very sour beer. As previously stated, this is nowhere near quad like in what we have to think of is a quad. But it is quite good.
