650ml bottle
8.0% ABV
The Beerbistro (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
August 30, 2007
$19.80
The price is not a mis-print, I really did pay $20.00 for a beer. The beer poured a muddy brown into the glass with a small tan head that lasted throughout. The aroma was very hoppy...VERY hoppy with some perfumy and floral scents. Almost bubble-bath like. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with some mild carbonation. The flavour was hoppy and very spicy with some lingering bitterness.

20 oz draught
5.0% ABV
I tried this beer on August 30, 2007 at 'Houston's Steak and Ribs' in Toronto. The beer was a hazy yellow colour with a very white head that persisted throughout the experience. The aroma was a combination of wheat and malt. The mouthfeel was slightly carbonated with some medium-bodiedness. The flavour was wheaty with hints of malt. A good beer, but not a great beer.

The beer poured a dark chocolate brown into a unibroue tulip glass with a very generous brown head. The aroma was reminiscent of malt, chocolate, and coffee. The mouthfeel is thick with mild carbonation. The flavour was very good, some malt and coffee hints.

2379 Laško Zlatorog / Lasko Zlatorog Slovenia Bohemian / Czech Pilsener 2.5

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

500ml bottle
4.9% abv
I tried this beer on August 27, 2007 at 'Smokeless Joe's' in Toronto. The beer poured a translucent gold into a glass with a loose white head which didn't last very long. There was some hints of malt in the aroma, but not a lot. The mouthfeel was thin, with mild carbonation, and slightly slippery, reminiscent of wheat beers. The flavour was also a bit on the grainy side. Not a beer I would go out of my way to order again, but it did knock another country off my list.

2380 Creemore Springs Premium Lager Canada Lager 2.9

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

20oz on tap
5% abv
I tried this beer on August 24, 2007 at Kelsey's in Milton. The beer was a beautiful coppery colour with a one finger head. The aroma was very faint to non-existant. Disappointing to say the least. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied with mild carbonation. The flavour was mild, a little malty and a little bitter. I may try this beer again.

The aroma was very yeasty, with some malt and cloves. The mouthfeel was medium bodied, and slightly champagne in nature. The flavour was that of yeast, malt, and cloves with a dry finish.

2383 XO Beer France Biere de Garde 3.8

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 10 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 7

330 ml Bottle
8.0%
I tried this beer on August 17, 2007 at 'Smokeless Joe' in Toronto. The beer poured into a tulip glass a beautiful reddish brown colour with almost no head. Like Biegaman, my bottle was also marked as 8%. The aroma was cognac, malt, alcohol and burnt butterscotch. The mouthfeel was very very smooth with a medium body and some mild carbonation. The taste was very heavy on the cognac, and a little hint of fruit. I did feel the alcohol burn, and for a beer with an 8% abv, that's not good in my book. A little pricey at $14.25/bottle as well when I can visit some other places and get an Abbey Quadrupel for less.

330ml bottle
6.0%
Milton LCBO Outlet #1 (Milton, Ontario, Canada)
August 12, 2007
I tried this beer on August 12, 2007 after purchasing from my local LCBO outlet. It poured a hazy gold colour with a small head into the glass. The bottle described the beer as 'double-hopped' but this was not detected in the aroma to any extent. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with mild carbonation. The flavour was slightly hoppy and mild.
Both the appearance and taste of this beer was more reminiscent of wheat beers than a Czech Style Pilsener.

500ml can
5.0% ABV
Milton LCBO Outlet #1 (Milton, Ontario, Canada)
August 12, 2007
It poured a translucent pale gold colour into the glass with a generous white head that quickly disappeared leaving some rocky lacing on top. The aroma was slightly malty. The mouthfeel was thin-bodied, crisp, with mild carbonation. Definitely not a watery feel. The taste was that of malt, hops, and a little spiciness I can't place. Overall, a decent beer.

Another fine product from St. Bernardus!

330ml bottle
4.8% ABV
I tried this beer on August 8, 2007 at a Korean Grill restaurant (Queen/University location) in Toronto. The beer poured a golden yellow into the glass with no head. There was no aroma to speak of..........I even had my partner smell the beer and she couldn't smell anything either. The mouthfeel was thin with mild carbonation. The taste was slightly malty with a dry finish.

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 9

330ml bottle
8.5% ABV
I had this beer on August 7, 2007 at 'Smokeless Joe' in Toronto. The beer was poured into a tulip and was a beautiful golden colour with a huge loose rocky white head that lasted longer than the beer. The aroma was hints of malt and some spice. The mouthfeel was light but with heavy heavy carbonation. The taste was slightly citrusy with a bitter aftertaste.

2392 Kawartha Lakes Brewing (KLB) Raspberry Wheat Canada American Wheat 2.9

Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4

20oz draught
4.50% ABV
I had this beer on August 7, 2007 at 'Smokeless Joe' in Toronto. It was on draught. The beer was a beautiful translucent red that reminded me of a Paulaner Salvator with very little head. The aroma was light on malt with a hint of raspberry. The mouthfeel was very weak...watery and no carbonation. The flavour was a combination of raspberry and coffee. The scary part of this beer is that after taking my notes from the first taste and writing them down..........the last 2/3 of the beer went down in maybe 5 seconds. This beer was WEAK.

355ml bottle
7.0% ABV
The Beerbistro (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
July 27, 2007
$14.00
I bought this on the waitress' suggestion (should I get this or Unibroue's Trois Pistoles). It poured coca-cola black into a tulip glass with absolutely no head. The aroma was that of coffee and cherries. The mouthfeel was crisp and full-bodied with a medium level of carbonation. The taste started off good with chocolate and cherries but by the end, it was so tart on the back of the tongue, it was all I could do to finish.

330ml bottle
9.0% ABV
The Beerbistro (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
July 27, 2007
The beer poured a deep dark brown into the Chimay glass with a generous off-white head that didn't last near as long as some other Trappists I've tried. The aroma is full of malt and yeast, with a tinge of sweetness. The mouthfeel was full-bodied with a champagne like carbonation feel. The flavour was a combination of malts and fruits. A very good beer.

500ml draught
5.0% ABV
The Beerbistro (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
July 27, 2007
Wow! Impressive. It came to me in a glass (on draught) and appeared to be chocolate milk with a thick head. The beer was dark brown, with a medium brown head that lasted throughout the beer. The aroma was a combination of malt, chocolate, and fruits. The mouthfeel was full bodied, and not as thick as I was expecting. Nor was there a whole lot of carbonation. The flavour was full of malt, chocolate, and plums. Overall, this was a truly great experience, and completely surprised me that a stout could provide this.

500ml can
4.80% ABV
Main/Bronte LCBO Outlet (Milton, Ontario, Canada)
July 25, 2007
$2.35
It poured a nice translucent gold calour into the glass with a large head that disappeared quickly into nothing. The aroma was very faint malt...very faint. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied with high carbonation. The taste was awful, not sure how to describe it really. Almost has salt tones to it.

500ml bottle
5.0% ABV (as written on bottle)
Milton LCBO Outlet #1 (Milton, Ontario, Canada)
July 25, 2007
The beer poured a translucent gold colour, darker than most North American lagers. The head was quite large and quite dense but disappeared quickly leaving a little lacing on the side. The aroma is hoppy with some yeasty tinges. The mouthfeel is slightly thick with ample carbonation and medium-bodied. The taste is very much pilsener like, but not as good as some of the common Czech Pilseners in my opinion.

2398 Rickard's Honey Brown Canada Brown Ale 2.5

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 5

20oz draught
5.0% ABV
I tried this beer on July 24, 2007 at 'Armadillo Texas Grill' in Toronto. The beer was reddish brown in the glass with a thick head that lasted for a couple of minutes. The aroma was malty with no hints of honey whatsoever. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied with little carbonation. The taste was malty/beery with no hints of honey. The beer was very similar to a somewhat flat Rickard's Red. In fact, the lack of honey aroma and taste and the reddish-brown colour had me wondering.

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3

330ml bottle
5.2% ABV
I tried this beer on July 23, 2007 at ’Smokeless Joe’s’ in Toronto. The beer poured a translucent pale gold with a 1cm dense head that dissipated very quickly. The aroma was full of corn, wheat and grass. Not at all appealing. The mouthfeel wasn’t as crisp as I was expecting and had a medium-body feel with some carbonation. The taste was thick with corn, and as I was finishing the beer, it got cornier (no pun intended).

330ml bottle
6.9% ABV (as written on bottle)
Smokeless Joe (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
July 23, 2007
Re-Rate: Milton LCBO Outlet #1 (Milton, Ontario, Canada)
Re-Rated September 25, 2007
The beer was bottled on November 16, 2006 and was 6.9% ABV (as opposed to 6.2%). The beer poured a cloudy brownish gold with a head that lasted through the entire trappist glass. The carbonation was very evident in the glass. The aroma was spicy and fruity, not as yeasty as an Abbey Quadrupel. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied with medium carbonation. The taste was not to my liking. The upfront taste was alright, but there was a lime-like bitterness on the back of the tongue. A very good beer, but not a great beer for me. Re-Rated on May 28, 2008 with no changes.
