26 Liefmans Frambozen Belgium Fruit Lambic 4.4

June 21, 2007 The Beerbistro (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
375ml bottle
4.50% ABV
$15.35
My particular beer was a Liefmans Frambozenbier, 375ml, 4.5% abv, and wrapped in a paper wrapper. This poured a beautiful maroon colour right out of the bottle with a beautiful raspberry aroma. The mouthfeel was crisp with some carbonation on the tongue. The beer started with a malty flavour with a lot of raspberry in it and finished with a crisp taste with a hint of raspberry. A truly wonderful experience for a fruit beer

June 21, 2007 The Beerbistro (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
250ml bottle
4.10% ABV
$5.90
The beer was poured by the waiter. It had a strong unmistakably strawberry aroma that captured me right away. It was a dark red in the glass. The mouthfeel was very champagne like. The taste was very good. A truly enjoyable beer.

28 Pilsner Urquell Czech Republic Bohemian / Czech Pilsener 4.0

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

June 21, 2007 The Beerbistro (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
330ml bottle
4.40% ABV
$5.90
This was poured by the waiter and was a nice crystal golden colour in the glass. The aroma was malt, and slightly yeasty. The mouthfeel was crisp as was the flavour. A little carbonation to tickle the tongue always helps. The flavour is grainy malt with a definite hop presence and small yeast presence. I would definitely try this beer again.

September 30, 2006
Gift
341ml bottle
5.00% ABV
$0.00
This was the free beer provided by a participant at the 2006 hockey pool. Decent aroma, but nothing to write home about. Slightly malty. The colour was an almost reddish colour. It felt 'perky' on the tongue, but the favour didn't thrill me.

30 Steam Whistle Pilsner Canada Bohemian / Czech Pilsener 2.2

Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4

September 30, 2006
Gift
341ml bottle
5.00% ABV
$0.00
Well, I'm not sure what to say about this beer. I was introduced to this beer by a friend who brought it to our 20th anniversary hockey pool. There was very little aroma in my opinion and very little flavour. The colour was a very weak translucent yellow. What little aroma there was slightly grassy. The mouthfeel was slightly watery, but with enough carbonation to save it. The taste was very weak in my opinion for a beer labelled as a pilsener. Working a short distance from the brewery itself (the old roundhouse at Toronto's Union Station houses the brewery today) and having watched it being built I was excited to try this beer. Needless to say the lack of aroma and flavour were very disappointing.

31 Sleeman Honey Brown Lager Canada Lager 3.6

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7

September 30, 2005
Gift
341ml bottle
5.20%
$0.00
This is great tasting beer. It pours an orangy red colour with a slight head. The aroma is nice and malty with a hint of honey. It works well on the cheeks with mild carbonation (unlike Sleeman Cream Ale which is way too fizzy). The taste is crisp and clear with hints of fruit and honey. Goes down well and tastes great with barbecued ribs.

October 24, 1999
Don Cherry’s Restaurant (Milton, Ontario, Canada)
341ml bottle
4.6% ABV
$2.60
To me, this is the definition of beer coloured and beer flavoured water. The aroma is very weak. The colour I've only seen before in toilets. And the taste is watery. Like Budweiser, it amazes me how many people order this beer instead of the multitude of great tasting treats in Canadian bars.

33 Stella Artois Belgium Lager 3.1

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

Brewed under license in Canada by Labatt Brewing Company
October 1, 1998
Casey’s Restaurant (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – Front Street West)>br> 330ml bottle
5.20% ABV
$4.00
This is a pleasant beer to drink after work when visiting the pub with friends. The aroma is mild and malty, and not too strong. It pours a nice golden colour with a fair sized white head and looks like a beer should. It is very smooth to the tongue and goes down nicely. It has a mild taste that makes this a very easy beer to drink.

July 9, 1998
Toby’s (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – First Canadian Place)
592ml Draught
5.00% ABV
$3.50
This is the beer that convinced me that Ales are not for me. I think the aroma is alright, and as for appearance, there is something about beer that looks like coffee that turns me off. Even the flavour wasn't that appealing to me. I found this to be a slightly bitter beverage. Even the mouthfeel felt very thick and strong with little in the way of carbonation. I'm the only person I know who doesn't really like Guinness so it's not you people...it's me.

35 Big Rock Grasshopper Wheat Ale Canada American Wheat 2.8

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

August 7, 1997
Gift
341ml bottle
5.0% ABV
$0.00
A beer for a summer vacation, and one of the earliest 'craft' beers I tried. This beer had an aroma that reminded more of rye than wheat. It was a nice golden colour when poured. It is smooth to the tongue and is smooth tasting. I would certainly recommend this beer to somebody wanting to try a decent wheat beer without paying through the nose.

36 Labatt Copper Canada Dunkel / Dark Lager 2.0

Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4

October 1, 1995
Don Cherry’s Restaurant (Milton, Ontario, Canada)
341ml bottle
5.5% ABV
$2.35
This beer was part of a huge national campaign done by Labatt in 1995. They distributed Copper X and Copper Y around the country to various watering holes, and consumers were asked to vote on their favourite. After the winner was declared, the beer lasted all of 5 months on beer store shelves. It was not a big winner. The aroma was metallic in nature and the colour was not all that dark. The taste was rather bland all the way through. A beer that if you blinked, you missed it.

June 3, 1995
Brass Taps (Guelph, Ontario, Canada – University of Guelph, University Centre)
341ml bottle
5.2% ABV
$0.00
The original review. A nice beer with a modicum of flavour. The colour is dark red-brown which looks very thick and the head varies. The aroma is non-descript compared to other beers, there are some slight malt and hop tinges, nothing overpowering. It has a lagery feel in the mouth which for me makes it a bit more palatable. The taste is a slightly sweet taste with a hint of malt. It tends to be a smooth brew which goes down quite well. I have recommended this to others.

2022 Re-Review
This is a re-review of a beer that I enjoyed immensely before becoming a beer hobbyist. This review is for the 473ml can purchased from one of the local LCBO outlets. The beer poured a translucent red colour with a 1/2 inch white head that did not stick around. The aroma is sweet caramel malt with some hoppish tones. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. The taste is stale sweet malt - and not much else. For swill - I still enjoy it.

38 Molson Dry Canada Pale Lager 3.0

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

September 29, 1994
Don Cherry’s Restaurant (Milton, Ontario, Canada)
341ml bottle
5.5% ABV
$2.85
This used to be a slightly better than average beer at an average price. First available in the early 90s when dry beer was all the rage. They have revised it in recent years with a slightly different recipe and a lower price. Originally advertised as a beer with no aftertaste. They lied. Molson Dry pours a light golden colour with little or no head. The aroma is pleasant to the nostrils, not overly powerful. The flavour and texture are very smooth. This is a beer that goes down easily......too easily. An old standby.

Unknown Gas Bar (Memphis, Tennessee, USA)
341ml bottles
6.10% ABV
$1.61
A very smooth beer with almost no aftertaste. This beer pours a nice light golden colour with a small white head that quickly dissipates. The aroma is nice and earthy and very pleasant to the nose. The mouthfeel is satiny with light carbonation. The taste is what really wins me over. The taste is crisp and clean, and smooth. This use to be one of my favourite wintertime beers.

40 Milwaukee's Best United States Pale Lager 1.0

Aroma: 2 | Appearance: 2 | Mouthfeel: 2 | Flavor: 2 | Overall: 2

February 1, 1994
P & H Café (Memphis, Tennessee, USA)
Shared Pitcher of Draught
4.60% ABV
$2.00
There is not a lot to say about this beer that is good, not for me anyway. The beer is a very very light gold colour that is reminiscent of American lagers. There is no discernable smell to speak of nor is there any discernable taste. The mouthfeel is very watery with few hints of any carbonation. Overall this is not a beer that I would try again, nor is it a beer that I would recommend to others. This beer led to my worst beer experience ever. I was given this at a bar in Memphis Tennessee. It was clear enough that I could read the newspaper through the full glass. No aroma to speak of, and very little flavour. I asked the waitress what it was. She replied, It's 'Milwaukee's Best'. I replied that if that was Milwaukee's best, I would hate to taste their worst. I was promptly asked to leave the bar.

41 Pabst Blue Ribbon United States Pale Lager 1.3

Aroma: 3 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 2 | Overall: 2

September 1, 1993
Location Unknown (Memphis, Tennessee, USA)
355ml bottle
5.0% ABV
$0.00
It's unfortunate that 2 is the lowest choice available, otherwise I would have given straight 1's to Milwaukee's Best, and four 1's and a 2 to this swill. This brew was the laughingstock at my graduate school department. I avoided it as long as I could but alas, I did eventually try it. It was rank right out of the bottle, and thankfully it had a more yellowish tinge than Milwaukee's Best..........and that's a very minor thankfully.

Re-Review
Brewed in Canada by Stroh Canada / Sleeman Brewing and Malting Company
473ml can
4.9% ABV (as written on can)
Canned On: September 8, 2021
LCBO Outlet #649 (Milton, Ontario, Canada – Sobey’s Plaza)
April 7, 2022
$2.15
A more experienced beer reviewer’s review! The beer pours a translucent straw gold colour with a huge fluffy white head that lingers as rocky islands for several minutes. The aroma is stale grains, herbal hops, and vomit. This beer does not smell good. The mouthfeel is thin and carbonation is average. The taste is just as bad as the aroma. Thirty minutes after finishing this…..it is still ravaging my tongue! My score has been adjusted slightly! (1.0 -> 1.3)
42 Heineken Lager Netherlands Pale Lager 2.3

Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

August 1, 1993
Gift
330ml bottle
5.0% ABV
$0.00
Another from the list of 'alright' tasting beers. Heineken is a beer that I expected more from. With it's place among the classic beers of the world secure, let's get down to the review. The colour is a straw gold colour that is representative of so many North American style lagers. The aroma is slightly hoppy and not too overpowering. The taste is pretty mild with nothing to really distinguish it from anything else. Not a bad beer, but it isn't a favourite of mine either.

Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 5

July 1, 1992
Gift
341ml bottle
5.0% ABV
$0.00
At best this is an average beer with an average look and taste. I’ve heard it was much better before interprovincial barriers caused the mass production. It is not a beer that I would go out of my way to buy, but if it is all that is available, it can be quite refreshing. It pours a golden yellow colour that is very clear. The aroma is grainy with some yeasty aftersmells. The mouthfeel is crisp and clear as a lager should be, some mild carbonation on the tongue. The taste is bland and non-descript with some hints of malt and grass.

44 John Labatt Classic Canada Lager 3.0

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

February 1, 1992
341ml bottle
5.0% ABV
$1.00
This is an average beer, certainly not a classic. No longer as heavily marketed as it was in the early 90s, but then again, in Canada, it seems only Molson Canadian is marketed to any real extent any more....no more 'Me and the Boys and our 50, me and the boys and our beer'. Anyway, I had this beer in a near frozen state. The beer is a translucent pale gold colour which looks great in a glass. There was very little aroma, but what aroma there was, was slightly malty and pleasant. The mouthfeel was crisp with mild carbonation and the taste was mellow, but not watery in the least. Never really figured out why it was called 'classic' - but it certainly isn't as bad as Blue.

April 5, 1991
Beer Store #4003 (Guelph, Ontario, Canada – Municipal Street)
355ml bottle
5.0% ABV
$1.00
My goal in June 2007 was to rate all the beer I've tried. That meant rating the bad ones along with the good ones. This is one of the bad ones. Where I went to University, this beer had the raunchy nickname of "'Ol Vag___", but I was not informed of that until after trying it. This is one of the old Carling O'Keefe products (Carling O'Keefe's Ol' Vienna Lager) that was popular in the late 70s and early 80s complete with television commercials. It pours a weak yellow colour with little head. The aroma was very skunky (every time I have tried this). The taste is rather skunky as well, not a friend to the mouth at all. Strong carbonation, and very little discernable maltiness. The more I thought about it, the less I liked it. After a couple, I was able to safely declare it among the worst Canadian beer I had ever tasted.

46 Sleeman Cream Ale Canada Cream Ale 2.5

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

June 8, 1991 The Bookshelf Café (Guelph, Ontario, Canada) 341ml bottle
5.0% ABV
$1.85
The first time I tried this beer, it was the only beer in the house. It wasn't that great. The second time I tried this beer, it was because I was a summer student with the brewery. It still wasn't that great. The company's flagship brand and liked by many of my friends, just not my glass of brew. I have to admit, the clear bottle is a very nice touch. The beer pours a light yellow colour (so the bottle isn't hiding anything) with a minimal head. The aroma is thick and hoppy, maybe too hoppy. This beer has way too much carbonation and is harsh on the cheeks. The taste is a mishmash of varying degrees, slightly malty, slightly grassy, slightly awful.

June 1, 1991
The Trasheteria (Guelph, Ontario, Canada)
355ml bottle
5.5% ABV
$2.00
I like this beer, I really do. As a previous reviewer stated, I was in University when I first tried this. I was a slave to the mainstream breweries when this happened in my glass. To me, the aroma is fruity in nature, which made me skeptical from the beginning. Being colour blind, I will not comment on colour aside from saying it isn't dark, nor is it light. As for the flavour, I love it. It has a full flavour not found in a lot of mainstream beer.

January 1, 1991
Boo Sports Bar, The (Guelph, Ontario, Canada – University of Guelph, University Centre)
355ml bottle
5.0% ABV
$2.45
This was my original favourite American beer (so far out of the limited swill I have tried). I tried it a few times here in Canada (brewed by Molson under license) and was pleasantly surprised. After moving to Memphis Tennessee, I tried it there, and was even more pleasantly surprised, an American brewed beverage that was better than it's Canadian brewed counterpart (unlike Budwesier, Coors, Coors Light, and Miller High Life). For a long time, this was the one American beer I came back to from time to time. The aroma is pleasant with some slight malty tones. The colour is a light golden colour similar to straw. The taste is slightly malty with some grassy undertones. It is very crisp on the tongue with some mild carbonation. A nice refreshing beer for an American macrobrew.

March 11, 2015
Another beer being revisted on Cheapie Wednesday. The beer pours a translucent medium gold colour with a short-lived snow white bubbly head. The aroma is grainy malts, vomit, and cooked vegetables. The mouthfeel is weak to medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is not that good and comparable to Canadian stock ales with milky cereal notes and metallic finishes.

November 10, 1990
341ml bottle
5.0% ABV
$0.00
This was a very good beer. It poured a translucent golden yellow colour into the glass with very little head. The aroma had a malty, earthy aroma...nothing spectacular. The mouthfeel is silky smooth and crisp with some mild carbonation that grabs the tongue in all the right places. The taste was that of a full bodied beer with a malty grainy flavour that lasted through the entire glass. Like the majority of macro lagers in North America, this beer is best enjoyed cold.

October 1, 1990
Unknown
330ml bottle
4.7% ABV
This is a nice beer. I went searching for Lowenbrau one evening and the clerk suggested this as an alternative. It is a nice golden colour with a light malty aroma. A very smooth beer with a very smooth taste that goes down easy, but has just enough bite to make you appreciate this beer. I did go back to the store the next day and tip the clerk for his suggestion.
