176 Cantillon Kriek Belgium Fruit Lambic 3.6

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

A nice sour brew, but it stands in the shadow of some of the greats. Excellent funky aroma and eggshell head over copper red body. Smooth and acidic mouthfeel. Funky, sour aroma, nice pilsner malty backing. Nice, but I would really like more cherry in this. The flavor is there, but not as aggressive as it needs to be to be really great.

177 Capital 1900 United States Bohemian / Czech Pilsener 2.8

Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6

Not your typical American Pils, seems more like a cream ale in some respects, but decent stuff. Poured with very little head w/ a golden body and zero lace, light honey and floral like aroma. Tastes of saaz-ish hops light malt and wheat/honey. Pretty good stuff.

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Had this at Real Chili around closing time with two chili cheese dogs, man did that hit the spot. Really malty and somewhat sweet with a touch of bitterness and nice carbonation. Good brown color with white cap of head that lasted most of the way down.

179 Capital Wisconsin Amber United States Vienna / Amber Lager 3.2

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 7

Served at this little pizza joint downstairs from a party we hit up in Madison. Went very well with a few slices of pizza. Certainly a slightly tamer (watery) version of their O-fest. Malty and very easy to drink, a nice beer.

180 Carnegie Porter Sweden Baltic Porter 3.6

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

2001 Vintage from the shelf at Gomer's in NKC. A very nice and sweet leaning Baltic Porter. Pours deep ruby/brown with a cap of off white head that faded out quickly into nothing. Heavy on toffee sweetness with cocoa and slight espresso notes. Very smooth and soft in the mouth. Earthy bitterness and soft carbonation. Time has done wonderful things with this beer, but I don't think it would get a whole lot better than this. Very nice.

181 Carolina Blonde United States Blonde Ale 3.1

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

On the bottle it claims to be a pilsner style beer and I'm inclined to believe them. Honey-esque floral and grassy hops, good fluffy head and robust carbonation, an example of the style, but not exemplary. Thanks very much to Dansting.

182 Carta Blanca Mexico Pale Lager 2.3

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 4

Oh another mexican lager? This was better than most of the stuff I've had from the region, but still nothing remarkable. Some bitterness, no skunk, no malt backbone here, and very watery.

183 Central Waters Brewer's Reserve Bourbon Barrel Stout United States Imperial Stout 4.3

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 10 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

An excellent offering supplied by heemer77 at Dansting's house. Upon smelling it was hard to tell this was imperial by any stretch of the imagination, cocoa, coffee, oats, roasty and sweet hoppy aroma with vanilla, oak and bourbon notes. Very intriguing. Tasted nice balance of roast grain, toasty wood and soft oats. Very smooth and creamy mouthfeel, coating and spiked with nice carbonation. A rarity, thanks heemer77.

An excellent Okotberfestbier from Wisconsin. Great deep brown with fluffy eggshell head. Loads and loads of malt flavors, some german (hallertauer?) noble hop flavor. Roasty and an almost chocolately maltiness comes in mid bottle. Slight yeasty breadiness. Excellent offering.

185 Cerveceria Mexicana Caballero Aguila Mexico Dunkel / Dark Lager 1.1

Aroma: 3 | Appearance: 2 | Mouthfeel: 2 | Flavor: 2 | Overall: 2

The worst tasting beer, period, end of story. Unlimited pours on tap at the all inclusive resort, and still just a shame of a beer. Not too bad to start, and then the contaminates kick in. Loads of buttery crap and boiled celery/cabbage. Please, don't waste any time on this one.

186 Chaucers Mead United States Mead 3.3

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 6

I had this following an O'Fallon Pumpkin Ale at the KC Renaissance Festival, very appropriate. Smelled heavily floral with a light sweetness and citrus. The hue was like a darker chardonnay. Filling, but not memorable mouthfeel. The flavor was full of flowery, herbal and mild citric notes, however, they all were vastly outmuscled by the huge, upfront sweetness. I don't know enough about mead to tell if it was backsweetened or underattenuated, however, it was tooth-rottingly sweet and just too much.

187 Chimay Cinq Cents (White) Belgium Abbey Tripel 4.6

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 10 | Overall: 9

Wow. This was fantastic. I had this instead of champagne for new year's 2005, and I could not have made a better decision. The corked bottle unleashed a rich fruity aroma of everything from raisens to orange and even clove. What stood out was the persistant carbonation and how well the aromas transferred to taste, not to mention how smooth and still bubbly it came across the tongue with a hint of alcohol.

188 Chimay Grande Réserve (Blue) Belgium Belgian Strong Ale 4.4

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 9

This was fantastic, poured a nice brown color with lots of little fuzzy bubbles. By my standards, this was pretty dang expensive, but I'd have to say this is absolutely perfect for special occaions. I'll really have to try this again to try and pick out all the little flavors and hints hidden all over this beer.

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9

Another good one from Chimay, nice head and bubbles on the pour, can't really complain about this one. Opaque for a clear beer, somewhat fruit...why not dry hop a belgain...that's a fantastic idea! To the brew-cave!

190 City Grille Amber United States Amber Ale 2.4

Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

From the brewpub across the street the Amber Ale is less than interesting. Slight hop bitterness and ambiguously small hop flavor, malty/tannic nose. Zero head and slightly fizzy, served far to cold, but did not recover. Good amber color, chill haze when served near freezing.

191 City Grille Honey Wheat United States American Wheat 2.1

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4

Is it just me or should Honey Wheats not be lagered. I'm almost sure this one one, since it lacked fruitiness and certainly had some sulphur and butter notes up front. Again, rather clear and lacking head. There's something I'm noticing about this place...

192 City Grille Light United States Blonde Ale 3.0

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

Certainly not a Kolsch, not hoppy enough. But this was very boring (two dimensional, at best) Light offering. Slight toasty/biscutiy malt, hints of hop bite, but nothing much else. Good lawnmower.

193 City Grille Pale Ale United States American Pale Ale 3.0

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6

My favorite beer from City Grille, a nice, hoppy pale ale. Again lacking texture, just plain carbonation and bitterness in the mouth. Where's the maltiness? Crystal clear pale orange, slight head and hints of lace. Good hop bitterness and some flavor, lower aroma, but still there.

194 City Grille Pumpkin Spice United States Spiced Beer 2.8

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

Aroma was spicy and balanced, with some maltiness, how promising. The rest, disappointing. This is like a small, cleared out version of O'Fallon Pumpkin, which of course seems to cause the beer to crash and burn. Thin in the mouth, prickly carbonation and nothing else. Flavors of spice and the tiniest hint of malt. No complexity.

195 City Grille Razz United States Fruit Beer 2.2

Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4

Another one that was less than compelling. Amber-purple-pinkish. Raspberry in the nose and on the tongue. Where's the beer behind this? Light and very easy to drink. Nothing unpleasant, but very pedestrian.

196 City Grille Stout United States Stout 2.8

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

Their second best beer. This comes across as more of a semi-sweet porter. Not dry nor sweet, really, roasted grains come across as dominant, thin maltiness and shades of hops, balancing bitterness and not much more. Boring, but not bad.

197 Colt 45 Double Malt United States Strong Lager 1.8

Aroma: 2 | Appearance: 2 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 4

Shockingly acceptable for a Malt Liquor. The malt actually dominated the corn to an extent and this had less of that veggie/contaminated charater. Congrats, C45 DM, you're the one eyed man in the land of the blind.

198 Colt 45 Malt Liquor United States Strong Lager 1.2

Aroma: 2 | Appearance: 2 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 2

Shockingly, this is not the worst of the worst, just very very close to it. Actually there was a bit of malt there. But, really, it was mostly it is an adjunct and contaminate loaded mess of a beverage.

199 Coopers Extra Strong Vintage Ale Australia English Strong Ale 4.0

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8

A great Old Ale, and a damn fine English Strong...I guess this blurs things just a bit for me. Anyway, rich maltiness dominates with huge backup from a combined fruitiness that seems to arise from everwhere, the malt, hops and yeast. From apricots and plums, to raisins, vanilla and tiny hints of apple, this is one damn fine beer.

200 Coopers Original Pale Ale Australia English Pale Ale 3.1

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

Kind of a let down, unfortunately, a mild hop character and surprisingly yeasty for a 'pale' ale. I did enjoy the yeast, though. Not much of a fizzy head on pour and rather foggy all 'round.
