CASK at the brewery. Murky peach hue with a large ice-cream-like head. Peach hop aroma, with a sugared-cereal aroma. Big apricot nose as well. Very smooth throughout the drink, with minimal bitterness. Finish is wet and fruity, and this beer almost resembles a fruit beer. I can say that the IPA on tap is completely different, and not as enjoyable. Cask is the way to go on this one. Tap gets ratings of 6/6/8/8/8

Beauty syrupy red appearance. Very viscous, thick as heck as it slowly slogs around the glass. The aroma is considerably sweet; roses, grapefruit. Sweet throughout the drink, very thick and viscous all over the mouth, sticky and smooth... very well balanced. The finish is not too bitter, and amazingly the alcohol is nowhere near what 11% should feel like. Bitter just enough at the end to compliment the sweet fruit flavor and mustiness. I could hardly ask for more from a barley wine.

There is a smoked wood and milk aroma on this one, which is really nice. Creamy with a sour milk and alcohol mixture. The bourbon really stands out in the finish. Goes from a smooth cream mouthfeel to a biting alcohol presence at the end, which is pretty remarkable. I like this one a lot.

Had at the brewery in Newport, June 2003. Murky pale red hue with little head. Apple and apricot aroma. Thick syrup feel. Very impressive sweetness and dryness togethor. Nice hop bitter finish. Hugely dry palate. Flavors are quite mild for a strong ale, with a slight blandness present; this is the only negative thing about this ale.

Aroma of pine, cardamom, rye and scotch. Very sweet overall... but with a big earthy peat/soil quality. Gritty, thick and sweet. Really a complex mix of flavors, and an excellent beer. Had this one on "opening night 2003" with Mike, Joe, Allison and Ann, and opened my bottle of it to celebrate the end of finals on 12/18/2003 - bottle was still as described above... absolutely excellent.
