I have recently tried a few winners from Bud. Reserve Black Lager and Nitro Reserve Gold are both pretty good. Another great one was Harvest Reserve, but I think it was only available around Omaha and Des Moines.

Perhaps many will be shocked into trying these Bud versions...since snobby BeerAdvocate didn't hate on 'em! :D https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/29/441903/ https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/29/472478/?ba=Spikester https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/29/432591/ https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/anheuser-busch-releases-budweiser-harvest-reserve-deep-golden-lager.618867/ I have drank some Black Lager. The others I didn't know about until heemer's post. ;) Tried a few nitros. Not just a gimmick; some beer drinkers prefer nitro over CO2. Especially interested in the Harvest brew. If it ever gets here. How would it compare to the long gone Erlanger?

The Harvest Reserve was really good for the style. A well balanced slightly grainy and fruity lager. too bad it was a limited regional release. Beers like that show me that Bud can put out solid brews rather than garbage faux micros like Shock Top.

Michelob had some good craftys going, not too many years ago. Don't know why they stopped? It's said that better quality beers often don't sell; the extra price for purer ingredients puts off many customers. They simply can't appreciate or don't care, they'll settle for less cost with less quality. Then again, sometimes good quality is found at a budget price. No wonder breweries have PR and QC and whoever and so forth being paid just to try and finger out what the heck will sell and what won't...?!? :o

I had some of the crafty Michelobs. Yeah generally they were good. No flaws, but tended to play it very safe.

Regular ol' Budweiser vs Bud Nitro Gold...side-by-side test. Both A-B. Both 5% abv. From there, they are different brews. Nitro is a darker copper color than pale yellow Regular. Nitro's foam and lacing are different...of course. Regular has the classic round-smooth-good/average flavor. Nitro has hops(!) and caramel flavor dominating, and a caramel aroma. Nitro is certainly worth trying! A flaw? Maybe that it lacks a round middle flavor, to complement the distinct hops and caramel? Shake, pop, hard pour, wait...and drink! :)

I've had American Budweiser once....from a keg in August 1993 while in memphis during grad school In Canada, our Budweiser has been brewed by Labatt's since 1978, and I don't think I've had one of those since the mid 80s
