[8D] I checked this out and I think I've learned. Not sure that I wanna go this route now, however. I have confidence in my independent add-ons, plus turning off stuff in Windows 10 and keeping Edge at bay. [8)] I choose to believe that Microsoft is really trying to serve the internet public these days. Others, who seem to be in the know, have stated such. [;)]

[8D] Here's a link you may find helpful: https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10 I just tried it out myself. I set a Restore Point as they Highly Recommend It! (Very quick) and changed the ! settings over. The ! doesn't go away, so pay attention if you want to keep track of each change. [;)] Simple, easy. [:)]

[8)] Seems that 10 & Edge aren't that good re: Security and Privacy. http://thenextweb.com/microsoft/2016/02/11/even-after-tweaking-your-privacy-settings-windows-10-is-still-a-privacy-nightmare/ http://theamericangenius.com/tech-news/microsoft-edge-browser-privacy/ [;)] You can find links to help you resolve your concerns, one way or another. For my PC, I went to Settings Security/Privacy and turned off almost everything along the lines of "Do you want diverse entities to access your data and info at will?" !!!
This old thread is just as valid now as then...and then some! I eventually ditched Windows and went to Linux Mint Cinnamon. It's not A Perfect Paradise, but it's a damn sight better better better than Windows/Microsoft...or even MacOS. Windows 10 became so blatantly intrusive...and now buddy-buddy with Google...so as to make it unbearable. Here's an interesting prophetic video from almost five years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aazULfUt09Y One thing lead to another. Beerpal is a beer site, not an internet management tool, so I won't go into great detail. It does seem that most users would be better off in Linux, or even Mac, than amoral invasive Windows. :( Here, Linux Torvalds, creator of Linux. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8NPllzkFhE
Linux distros are free for the taking! You can do it yourself if you want to. I'm not so tech-savvy, so I brought my PC to a shop. Much cheaper than paying for a Windows OS; I simply paid a modest installation fee. :) Another option: A clean Windows 7. Here's a long thread. If you want to cut to the essentials, scroll down to Ken (me) on Aug 31, then Marky (PC repairman) Sep 6, then me again Sep 7. https://www.ghacks.net/2019/07/11/did-microsoft-just-drop-the-telemetry-bomb-on-windows-7-users-without-telling-anyone/#comments
Linux Mint Cinnamon is much liked by users from Windows. Ubuntu is also preferred, but it's a bit quirky compared to Mint. Bigger and badder = its strengths. :) :) ChaletOS can do more than I can comprehend! Still, I'm able to use it for my basic computer operations. I know of Raspberry Pi only by online info. I know that Linux is "in there". I'm a Linux desktop computer user, and also a land phone throwback. :D
Uh...well...to be accurate, ChaletOS is on a laptop that I've kept stationary since it was given to me. Free but not-the-best Wi-Fi in this building is its network source. That's why I got it cleaned out and had Chalet put on in place of {GASP!} Windows Vista !!! :o :o My hp tower (wired) has a dual boot Mint Cinnamon and Ubuntu. I use the default firewall, but many users don't bother with it because Linux is so secure. Seems more private too, but that's a subjective evaluation! I use adblocker and privacy software in my browsers anyhow (Firefox for Linux is the default). ;) Windows fans should consider using a clean secured locked-down and so forth Windows 7. Seems that Microsoft is getting even more autocratic since it became buddies with Google. I am glad and appreciative of the quieter environment of Linux...even though I haven't mastered it yet by ANY means !!! :D :0
