this topic is old but i'm goin' to reply to it. metallica has sukked ass for a very long time. i can't believe robert trujillo who played w/ great bands such as d.r.i. would join mettalica, but then i'm surprised that newstead stuck around as long as he did. i liked the SONG st. anger. again, the song. it was one of the heaviest things they ever did, then i heard the whole album, and cheeerist it was horrible, just as bad as "crap" and "recrap"
But you have to admit, Master of Puppets still rocks! The Black Album was their last good/decent album, but you still need to respect them for the epics they put out in the 80's. I saw them on their "Madly in Anger with the World" tour early last October, and let me tell you, they only played three songs in the entire nearly three hour set newer than those off of the Black Album. That was playing for the fans - you've never lived until you've seen Dyer's Eve live!
the black album sukked and justice was over-rated i am 33 years old and grew up in time and a neighbourhood where by the age of 14, i and many of my friends were full fledged metalheads; i owned ride the lightning the day it came out. by 1996 i had seen metallica 3 times, slayer twice, motorhead, maiden and priest 6 times each, exodus, venom twice. most of the guys i grew up with started with maiden/priest, moved on to metallica(they were a great gateway band), then moved to more similar thrash, speed, death, black, punk, hardcore, etc. as far as metallica, they were a good a band, and had some good songs, but as all mass marketed things, they were in the right place at the the right time-there were a hell of alot of better bands buit metallica is the one that made it big. i find that ALL of the original metallica fans, that is someone who was into the band prior to justice, all moved on to harder bands(hence the title gateway band). that is why as far as i, and many others are concerned, they really lost and sold out w/ the black album and find justice over-rated. my two cents.
