FINALLY...JULEOL SUCCESS!!!!.....
General Beer Discussion by OIZNOP
...After all this time, a trip yesterday across the state line finally yielded the traditional Norwegian Juleol style that I have been searching for low these many past Christmas seasons. Picked me up a bottle of Haandbryggeriet Nissefar and a bottle of Aegir Julebrygg Green Label at Vintage Estates in Boardman, OH. Yes, braved the elements and made the surprised acquisitions. I read the reviews on here for them, and they both look really good. I can't wait to taste these on Christmas Eve. I sure wish Aass Bock was still available in this country like it was 10 years ago. God Jul, everyone!

So what exactly is the definition of this style? Googling gives a few vague ideas. A strong, malty lager with or without spices?

google search Juleol, and click on the Wikipedia link, and make sure you hit the translate button!...[:D]
This should give you some idea. Not really that uncommon, as there are multitude of beers for Christmas out their. I just wanted to try something from Norway because it's the one country I haven't really experienced, other than some of Nogne O's selections....

I asked, because that page is very vague. Only says it's an old style & a strong beer("ie from 4.75% and higher").

Most of the Xmas seasonal beers around in Scandinavia and Finland are more or less viennas or ambers to the style (as for what they've been for 10+ years). Occasionally with a stronger almost bocklike malting to them. The more spiced and radical things are a bit more recent stuff, which mainly are done by micros...

Same here Thomas. Top 10 all-time, easily.
Brett, I love showing pictures of the civet poo to people while telling them how awesome this beer/coffee is. Never fails to get a reaction.
