OH, it's even worse than this! When you take a picture and post it, most cameras will tell when it was taken and exactly where it was taken. The big deal about the iPhone tracker is that it's unsecured and uncontrolled. It's true that cell phone services pretty much know the same exact information, but the difference is that it's secure and the government needs a court order to retrieve it. The iPhone data has an unencrypted database showing where you've been every minute you've had your phone, and it sits on your phone and every computer you ever synced with. A pretty basic virus could look up the directory on your computer and send it out somewhere without you ever knowing. Personally, I don't really care. If someone wants to know where I am all they time they can follow me or hire someone else to do it. I'd be flattered ha.
