Searching for Quality Imbibables in Newport, RI

General Beer Discussion by FOAMDOME

Hey, gang. New job has me traveling all the time. To a beer hunter, that means one thing... opportunity!! And I love it. Any BeerPals have favorite brews, brewers, brewpubs in Newport? I will be there 3 nights beginning 29 Nov. By the way, my most recent trip was to Denver, where I tried 20 new beers in 4 days. I am way behind in posting my reviews, but I have been keeping notes in my journal and I will share asap. And thanks to Brett for the notes about Wynkoop Restaurant and Brewpub. Great place! So, who knows Newport, RI?

In Reply To #1 Look around for Newport Storm '04. There are still some bottles of the earlier vintages hanging around as well. The '04 is considered an Imperial Pilsner, and is supposed to be excellent. It hasn't showed up in CT yet, but I can't wait. From what I hear, it's hot, so grab a couple to age as well as try fresh. If you can find the '03, I highly recommend that as well. It was an incredible Doppelbock, around 12% abv. The earlier vintages were barleywines. I didn't have the chance to try any, but I've heard there are still bottles from '00-'02 hanging around. The brewery itself is right in Newport. You can call ahead for a tour, info is on the site. http://www.newportstorm.com/index.asp I haven't been to Coddington's but have heard good things. http://www.newport-brewery.com/newport-brewery/ Trinity brewing looks pretty good too. http://www.trinitybrewhouse.com/
