Judge Strikes Down Ban on Single Beer Sales

Industry News by DREWSESLU

Washington (AP) - Buying a single can or bottle of beer will still be legal in the near future in some parts of Northwest Washington. A federal judge has struck down the District's ban on such sales in Ward 4, ruling that the D.C. Council hastily passed it last fall without the required public notice. It was supposed to begin last November, but never took effect because the judge blocked its enforcement until the larger legal questions could be decided. This week, she struck down the law. The measure was known as the Fenty Amendment after sponsor Adrian Fenty introduced it as a means to reduce litter and drinking on sidewalks. There are similar bans in the Mount Pleasant and Adams Morgan neighborhoods. http://www.wjla.com/news/stories/0605/236727.html

I can honestly say taht Adrian Fenty is a scum bag. Buying a single beer does not and never will = litter. Nor is litter defined as a beer bottle. Sure, we all want less litter on the streets, but this law is about stopping BEER. Following this logic would require us to ban to ban the sales of all single containers! As a matter of fact, I see many more paper and plastic coffee cups on the sides of roads than beer. This jerk obviously wants to get rid of beer and is using litter as a smoke screen. Thankfully, the judge wasn't fooled.
