Mary & Danny Wolf have accomplished something that many only dream: building a brewery in their own backyard (which just happens to be along beautiful route 151 in Nellysford, VA). Wild Wolf Brewing Company, established November 11, 2011, is one of just a few mother/son operations in the country. Danny, a classical trained Brewmaster by the Siebel Institute in Chicago, and Mary, a business savvy entrepreneur, have turned a family passion for craft beer into one of the fastest growing breweries in Virginia. The homegrown brewery and restaurant is situated in the heart of the Brew Ridge Trail and features a wide selection of hand crafted beers as well as the freshest local foods in Central Virginia—all in a century old, revitalized Nelson County school house. The ten acre property features an authentic Biergarten, shaded by a protective canopy of 60-year-old Siberian Elms, including a charming gazebo, large koi pond, and working water wheel. In addition, an outdoor pavilion has been enclosed to allow for a screened experience in the summer and a warm cozy venue in the winter. The pavilion hosts live music every weekend year round. Inside the restaurant, guests are treated to a rustic dining experience, including wrap-around porches that provide stunning views of the surrounding mountains and property. Towards the back of the old schoolhouse guests enter the new building which houses a lively sports bar as well as our brewing facility. We always have a selection of 10-12 house and seasonal beers on tap as well as 6-packs & 22oz bottles to-go. However, as much as we love beer, food does not take a back seat in this brewery. Executive Chef Bryan Nageotte is using locally sourced ingredients to craft a menu that features our house smoked meats, southern staples like chicken & waffles and shrimp & grits, as well as gluten-free and vegan options. We offer a full menu seven days a week including brunch from 11am-2pm on Sundays. Along with great beer and food, the property is also home to five old tobacco barns that have been repurposed as boutique shops. Guests can spend the entire day leisurely eating, drinking, and shopping in a family (and dog) friendly environment. The only thing that is as important to us as the quality of our beer, food, and service is our commitment to the environment. Here at Wild Wolf we take every measure possible to reduce our carbon footprint. We made the choice to can our 12oz beer to minimize raw material and maximize recyclability. Our spent grain from the brewery feeds local cows. We grow our own hops on-site, boasting a 400 hill field that will be soon be ready to harvest for a fresh-hop brew of Alpha Ale. We also have a state of the art drainage field including an aerobic digester, an anaerobic waste reactor as well as vertical flow wetlands. This enables us to significantly conserve water and make sure the pristine mountain spring water we use in our beer stays that way.
