The Fairhope Brewing Company is a labor of love embarked upon by five people with two goals: brewing great beer and bringing it to the thirsty beer-drinkers of Lower Alabama. At FBC, we're just a bunch of beer geeks who have all pondered the same question: “With breweries popping up everywhere else in Alabama, why not in the southern part of the state?” Rather than sit around a bemoan the answer, we decided to do something about it, and the Fairhope Brewing Company was born. With more than 2,000 craft breweries operating in the United States, our team – Brian Kane, Michele Kane, Jim Foley, Gabe Harris, and Dan Murphy – has had no shortage of inspiration. All told, we've visited more than 50 craft breweries across the country, taking notes – and drinking a good bit of beer – along the way. Looking back, we all like to the think that each of those visits was research that would ultimately lead to us starting our own brewery. There's Brian and Michele's trip to the Kenai River Brewing Company in 2006. Or the time Gabe and his wife, Julie, took on a flight of more than 20 beers at the renowned Russian River Brewing Company in Northern California. Or when Jim stumbled upon the Dry Dock Brewery in a strip mall in Denver, and Dan and his wife Amy drove through a snowstorm to visit the bucolic Ommegang Brewery in upstate New York. While not all the visits were research – sometimes, we just wanted a good beer – there's no question we all learned a lot along the way. The Mission of the Fairhope Brewing Company is to: Brew quality beer; Be a unique attraction that will boost the local economy of the Fairhope area; and Have all craft beer drinkers along the Alabama Gulf Coast think of FBC as their local brewery. The Fairhope Brewing Company is located at 914 Nichols Ave., just a block off Highway 98 in Fairhope, Ala., and less than five minutes from beautiful downtown. Our taproom offers a comfortable atmosphere to meet up with friends, enjoy a variety of our hand-crafted beers and play some shuffleboard or darts. You can also look for FBC beers on tap at your favorite Gulf Coast bars and restaurants, from Fairhope to Daphne, Mobile to Orange Beach and everywhere in between. "If there is a Norman Rockwell town in the South, this is it," an Atlanta Journal-Constitution article once proclaimed about our funky little Eastern Shore town. We like to think that if Rockwell had painted his vision of Fairhope, it would have included a cool little brewery just off Highway 98.
