An American Barleywine such as this one is best thought of as a malt forward double IPA. Notes of leather, toffee and caramel from the malt body intermingle with the generous hopping of Chinook, Cascade, Centennial and Jarrylo and leave you with a sticky, resinous finish. Aromas of grapefruit and pine round out the complex and flavorful profile of this delicious behemoth. A beer this big comes by only every once in a while - make sure you get some!

Pours clear mahogany with a thin buff head. Aroma is weak, but lures you in with roast malt and nutty notes. Flavor delivers far more than what the wan aroma promises - malty, horehound, nutty, toffee and caramel tones parade through your mouth, along with hoppy and earthy hints. Mouthfeel is firm and fizzy, if lacking in fizz.
