A limited-edition hand crafted bottling, "400 Ale" commemorates the founding of the first Virginia Settlement (Jamestown, 1607 - 2007), and with it, the founding of the American brewing industry. This ale, like the ales of the time, is brown in color. It may be more robust than 18th century brews, a liberty we choose to take. How could we possibly do justice to so important an event of 400 years ago with anything other than a truly robust, full-flavored, contemporary "Imperial Brown Ale"?

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7
This one poured a dark brown color with little head showing. The aroma contains some coffee, dates, caramel, and raisins. The flavor is rather sweet with some alcohol showing through. I taste some dark fruit, molasses, and coffee. A big malty beer with some sourness in the finish. Overall a little too sweet but not bad.
