Our brewers added fresh whole vanilla beans to a few select barrels of our Barrel-Aged Brrrbon ’13, an imperial version of our Brrr Seasonal Ale aged in Kentucky Bourbon barrels, for this limited edition brew. The addition of vanilla beans heightens the vanilla character imparted by the barrels, and adds a delicious layer of complexity to the beer’s oak and caramel character, making for a smooth warmer perfect for the season. MALTS: Pale, Caramel, Carapils, Dark Chocolate HOPS: Alchemy, Simcoe, Cascade

Pours a beautiful clear chestnut with a fairly thick and rather fine-bubbled light tan head. Malty aroma has firm notes of bourbon-soaked wood and caramel, plus a tantalizing hint of vanilla. Oaky bourbon dominates the bold flavor while letting through hints of caramel, vanilla, chocolate and horehound. Firm, smooth texture has a good amount of fizz and leaves a woody, bourbony, slightly candy-bar finish. This will take the brrr out of chilly weather next time one of them winter storms pays a visit.

I'm not sure the vanilla imparted by the barrels NEEDED to be heightened. Kinda like the vanilla BCS in my mind. Not bad, just not neccesary. Tasty, but if anything takes away a tad of complexity from the non-vanilla version(s).
