Big Phatty Panama Red is a superbly crafted big and hoppy red ale. Amarillo hops and Maris Otter malts play off each other in a symphony of fruity, nutty, caramel flavors backed by a stiff bitterness and a bone dry finish. It's blunt, phat, and everything else in between.

Tasted on Tap at 2005 OBF. Dark brown color. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is fruity and sweet and a touch oaky. A medium bodied American Strong Ale. Malts are fruity, caramel, chocolate and sweet. Hops are grapefruity, floral and citrusy. There are a lot of flavors going on here, that are really competing with one another. Still it’s a well-balanced and fairly smooth tasting beer. Touch of alcohol bite at 8%. Its kind of a train wreak of flavors, a well balanced train wreck, but a train wreck non-the-less. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
