Though some refer to Schwarzbier (Black Lager) as the "stout" of lagers, this beer lacks the typical bite and heavy roast of a stout. Light-medium bodied with ruby-black highlights, this super smooth lager has deep, complex notes of bitter chocolate and a strong malty backbone to which there is a soft but present hop contrast. With typical lager smoothness, this beer's clean finish and easy-drinking qualities make it very "sessionable". Schwarzbier is one of the most ancient beer styles and another prime example of German brewing excellence.
