The second of three rather obscure English Christamas Ales, that I picked up last night, and enjoying in the "comfort" of my Best Western hotel room, near Dayton OH...

While my first beer of the evening (the Camerons Christmas Ale) was really quite staid and perhaps a touch on the dull side..., this beer, on the other hand, is far from luckluster. Very much more of a Winter Warmer than the Camerons snoozer.

It has been rather bitterly cold during my week working at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, including seeing some snow flurries last night and this morning. So, what better way to fight off the chill than a solid Winter Warmer, yes?

Well, I'd say that this beer meets that requirement rather nicely enough. Fruity and warmish in both the nose and the mouth, with a rather toffey-ish vibe in the middle especially welcoming. Backend can be a touch on the toffey-sweet side of things, but the warming alcohol aftertaste quickly makes this a moot point. Some vague cinammon hints in the finish, though I'm pretty damn sure that no extra spices were tossed into this beer....

But what's really interesting is that I have the aforementioned dullard "Camerons Christmas Ale" the benefit of the doubt, since it was quite possible that it was from Christmas 2004 or so. Well, not sure if that theory holds water, since this beer is rather kicking, and yet "Best Before 22FEB2004"... This beer, fresh? Look out. But even ~18 months old or so, it's still a nice Winter Warmer indeed....

Music: The Smith's "Queen Is Dead".
