When I tried this on tap, I thought it was way too sweet. I find it's drier and more balanced in the bottle. Practically opaque dark brown with a nice head that resolves to a ring. Aroma of dark fruit, sweet bready malt, yeast. Sweet roast coffee flavor, bread, smoke, and a hint of soy sauce. Will probably re-review over time.

This is a big favorite locally and has achieved critical acclaim for Shenandoah. However, it is so sweet and malty that I find this version unpalatable. The oak barrel conditioned version, on the other hand is quite a treat (see that review).
