Pemaquid Ale...., also known as the Semi-Official Beer of the Beale Street Barbecue And Grill (Bath, ME). It was here that I had a pint glass full of what they were semi-officially calling "QBQ Ale".
Anyway, no matter how you slice it up, this is a tasty brew for sure. I was surprised to see it listed both here and on the Sheepscot website as a Scottish Ale, since this struck me as more of an English Pale Ale than anything else. Maybe it's something of a compromise (um..., maybe Scottish Pale Ale)?
This looked good (amber-reddish, with a nice layer of rock-solid foam), smelled nice (malty baby! but with some hops in the backend too), and tasted *just right* with my plate of Jambalaya. A touch smokey in the mouthfeel, that lent itself nicely to both the heat of the Jamnbalaya, and the well-behaved hops in the beer itself.
Certianly an East Coast beer -- no doubts about that. This might be seen as being a bit too "wishy-washy" for some West Coast beer fans. But for this particular West Coast beer fan (who often times lives out of a suitcase), this is a worthwhile beer, and surely worth checking out. Recommended.
