Had this one on tap today at Opal Devines in Austin. I have to say i was impressed with this ale becuase of its balance. It wasnt overly sweet, or malt heavy like many others. It had the usual aromas and flavors of sweet caramel malts, but they were not overbearing but balanced just right, some folks would say and i would agree that its not heavy or bold enough to rank up there with the Belhaven, Traquair, or Orkney, but it is really good in its own right. You can sit and enjoy several of these with out being totally weighed down, watch out for the 9.7%, its hidden very, very well, two thumbs up for real ale. 4/23/2015- Im not going to re rate because it would drop the score. They started putting this in bombers so i gave it another try. Aromas and flavors were malt heavy with a peat/ medicinal quailty i didnt remember. The ABV dropped from 9.7% to 9.3% but the alcohol is much more noticeable in the finish. I dont really care for this newer version as much.
