Named for the scenic ridge that runs between Blanco and Wimberly, Devil's Backbone is a Belgian-style trippel. Brewed in the traditional manner, Czech Saaz hops and Belgian yeast give this ale its distinctive flavor and aroma. Candy sugar made in-house at the brewery adds strength without increasing heaviness. The result is a deceptively strong, pale golden ale. ABV: 8.1%, IBU: 36, OG(plato): 18

Clear yellow, small lacing white foam head. Sweet barley aroma and taste, good tripel like. Had better beers from this brewer, but apparently I am the only one giving this a medium rating. (Austin 201505)

Sampled from bottle. Pours hazy gold with a thin white head and nice lace. Sweet malt, banana and pepper aroma. Balanced. Tropical fruit esters. A fine triple.

This poured a golden color with a white head. The aroma contained some lemons, spices, and a slight grassy note to it. The flavor was a bit boozy with more lemons, spices, and biscuits showing up the finish. The finish was rather sweet and boozy. Overall this was pretty average.

I tried this one at the brewery this past friday, and i have to say it was a pretty nice beer. The thing i liked best about this was its balance over all the categories. It wasnt overwhelming in sweetness, or heaviness, the flavors and aromas were a little mild, but nice anyway, and the alcohol was hidden very well. Overall it was a nice beer that i would love to drink again, it is a touch on the light side for a triple, but it works. This was my 666th review, kinda weird how that worked out.

had on my lunch break and the next night at BoonDoggles... Lots of fruit, bubblegum, and other similar aroma’s .... fruit and candy in the taste, very very delicious stuff.. Another fine beer from the true brewing professionals up in Blanco.. This was a pleasure to drink!! A wonderful tripel that I wish more people could try!!

rerate: has transitioned into bottle very well .. smooth, light sweetness, with a touch of dryness.. . this beer could seriously turn heads if put into 750's and distributed in Europe, and bigger US cities.. an amazingly well made beer and more fun than burning a barrel of monkeys!!!
