A typical roasted barley scotch ale , coppery and toasty flavour with a hint of coffee. Pours a nice dark red coulur with a tight head . I always seen it as a safe bet if taking a few beers to a house party as it was still drinkable at room temperature if fridge space was at a premium and as mentioned by a previous reviewer it was generally on special offer in the off licences of the North East .

Aroma is a bit weak, but not bad with hints of hops and strangely some coffee. Nice clear brown color. Lots of foam. Taste is good woodish and has some bread and cookies in it. Aftertaste is pleasantly smooth and round. Not the best Scottish beer, but nice average ale.

again, bought on the rep of one of their beers, and this one didn't match up well. kinda muddles scottish ale flavors. kinda. pretty thin and messy. not offensive, even though the metallic biterness was present, but i'll pass on all but the scotch ale in the future.

WTF?! The metallic taste just would not go away... unfortunately I had but only one to sample. Other than that, it was about average for the style and about what I expected, so no surprises... but the flavor was henious!

A robust and pleasantly flavoured ale. It pours with a good head and is quite rich in taste and flavour. It has been going a long time and is held in high regard and rightly so.

A decent scottish ale. Nice apperance out of the bottle. Lots of lacing and a bit of head. Not alot of carbination with some spicing. Very decent and not too expensive here in the Uk.

light rust colour...sweet-ish stale smell..ugh, this beer smells terrible..good foamy head, low bubbles...BLAH!!! tastes terrible...awful, worst aftertaste from a beer ever, dusty and metallic...if i find this on tap i'll try a sample just to make sure but i tryed to different cans from diff locations and same kick in the balls results.

Amber color with very little head. Aroma was musty with a slightly stale smell to it. Too light in body for the style. Uninteresting sweet malt flavoring to this beer, the only interesting aspect was a slightly salty flavor. Aftertaste was minimal.

copper coloured, fine long lasting head and some lace; dry hoppy aroma with a hint of caramel; moderate malt body, some sweetness and a touch of bitterness

I've been drinking this ale for many years, and even though I enjoy others, I always come back to this one. A lovely drink served chilled, with various foods. Our local store sells 8 x 500ml cans for £6 which is a pretty good deal! Attributes? Well... it's pretty potent!!!
