Commercial Description: Part of our limited release high gravity series celebrating our twentieth anniversary (1989 to 2009) Double Dread Imperial Red (An American Strong Ale) is a high gravity red ale brewed with Two-Row Pale Malt, complimented by Aromatic and Wheat malts and a blend of CaraMunich, Carastan and Crystal malts for color, complexity and flavor. Fermented with our signature ale yeast, this hop bomb of a red ale is bittered with Colombus and Cascade hops, flavor and aromatics are enhanced by Cascade, Chinook and Amarillo, then generously dry-hopped with a tri-fecta of Cascade, Amarillo and Chinook for zesty citrus aromatics and a resinous flavor explosion. For those who chose to indulge their courtly passions be forwarned that this royal ruby refreshment ferments out at 8.6% a.b.v and nears triple digit IBU’s.

A deep red amber in color with a big frothy textured, light tan hean rising robustly above. Good hang time on this one. Thin ringlet and low lying film are what is left. Sharp caramel, citric hops in the nose. That profile is nicely blunted in the tasting adding some licorice and nuttiness

Strong aroma is mainly yeasty, with plenty of hops like a good IPA, and notes of caramel and cinnamon. It pours a clear, dark, hot mahogany with a decent light tan head. Flavor has a malty core and firm woody, hoppy and cinnamon tones. Texture has average body and average fizz, but that is this beer’s weakest point. Big deal. Overall, a worthy brew.

a nicely balanced imperial red, and quite drinkable if not terribly exciting. aromatic carmel malt, citrusy hops, and a little biscuit on the tongue as well.

Sampled on 5/21/2011. This Imperial Red ale pours a very cloudy reddish amber color from a 12oz bottle. Medium sized white/beige foamy head with decent retention. The aroma is caramel, fruity and sweet. A medium bodied Imperial Red Ale. The malts are caramel, fruity and sweet. The hops are herbal and earthy. Mild carbonation. Decent balance. Tastes like a ramped up amber ale, fairly smooth tasting throughout with some lasting bitterness at the finish. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Bottled@Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Ambery red colour, small beige head. Aroma is caramel, wood, alcohol and some mild notes of grass, herbs and spices. Flavour is quite much he same. A rather imperial alcohol bomb that really bites. OK, but a bit too IPA like, ina bad way.

Pours out in a clear deep reddish amber colopur with a small yet lasting off-white head. Rich rounded and resinous aroma of caramel, licorice, red berries, flowers and red grapefruit. Nearly full-bodied with notes of berries, resin, mild pepper, caramel and lemon-zest. Long bitter finish of grapefruit, resin, grapefruit and grass with rounded sweetish undertones of peaches and fudge. Well done!
