Dark ruby red, light opaque, small light brown foam ring. Strong red wine aroma, high alcohol announced. Indeed strong alcohol content, light sparkling in mouth, some cereal tones. (Velp 201412)

Bottle n° 20449, brewed on 01/11/2007. Best drink before 01/11/2012. Poured a deep ruby brown colored ale with a huge brown foamy head that had a long retention. Nice lacing. Great carbonation. The aroma is dark fruits, spices, raisins, caramel malts and notes of porto wine. The flavour is sweet caramel malts, dried raisins, licorice. The palate is rich and rapidly warming. The alcohol seems to be not so present as expected. The finish is a long moment of sweety malty happiness. This full bodied ale should be wonderful to be taste near the fireplace during the cold time.

(2002 vintage, thanks Bov!). Dark reddish brown colour, mediumsized brown head. Aroma is alcohol, caramel malts, some spices and raisins. Flavour is spices, raisins, caramel malts, toffee, some cinnamon and clove. Nice sting on the tongue in the finish (of the alcohol). Pleasant and well aged thing.

re-rate, 12/27/2002: dark fruits are showing up in this almost 2 years old beer. Notes of licorice. The flavour is still sweet and full but the finish has developed a long bitterness with some smokey notes. It still lacks of complexity but should still improve while aging.
10/5/2001: dark amber colour, fine head, very malty, caramel, very sweet
