Finally for the first time since December of 2005, RUDOLFS the red nose reindeer cousin BLITZEN has arrived! BLITZEN, a Hoppers Christmas Ale was reformulated by Yours Truly in 1998 and brewed every year for the Holidays. It is naturally carbonated Ale without any spicing. 2 different yeast strains are used and provide certain spicy Belgian flavors. Chocolate malts give it a nice chocolaty finish.

First glass of this since ’05. This is the same Blitzen that Franz served up at Hoppers. It pours deep hazy amber with ruby hues and lasting light tan head. The aroma is mild with cherry, sweet raspberry, other fruitiness and a touch of dusty yeast. The taste begins fruity like the nose with dark fruit like cherries, ripe plums and raspberries. It then dries out some with yeasty spice giving way to roasty to mildly chocolate malts. It has more than a modest roastiness into the finish along with lingering yeasty spices.
