A blend of Pale, Munich and Biscuit malts establishes the bready flavor for the apple and pecan wood-smoked malts to create a brick-oven, pizza dough flavor base in this well-hopped, medium-bodied strong ale. Flavors reminiscent of cured meats and onion are delivered by the addition of black truffle, leeks, fennel and Summit hops in the boil. Perfect accompaniment with your favorite Italian restaurant’s slice of pie or lasagna.

    Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 10

50cl bottle pours with a near clear copper body that supports a thin tan head. The aroma offers up some prunes and dates and then quickly getting into soft inviting near bacon Alderwood like smoke and an intriguing earthy oily fruity damp carpet sort of thing. What. Cool. The taste delivers thin sweet malts and a wafer thin flash of sweet dark fruity esters before this descends into a moderate level of smooth supple Alderwood like smokiness linked directly to an earthy kind of fruity berry and then sort of, yeah, earthy berry prune. Not sure that makes sense. Another angle to this is the blend is lightly smoked and modestly aged earthy wet carpet peppered with like earthy wolf berries. Very cool. Another sip and the smoky Alderwood takes on more of a nourishing smoked pork sensation. Fun beer that garners an 10 overall score for being so fun and different.
