This beer is all about the malt. It is brewed with pale and roasted barley with a little smoked malt that makes it slightly smoky. English hops are used only to balance out the malt and an English yeast strain leaves a slightly fruity finish. Dark copper in color, with a light tan head, and a malty aroma. This style is known as a 80 shilling or Export, it is dark but at 5% ABV it is very sessionable.
