This barley wine pours with an orange-gold body topped by a thin head with little lacing. The aroma is sweet and slightly malty with a nice hop note and a little grapefruit, as well as, other fruits. The flavor is slightly sweet yet bitter with notes of malt, a nice hoppiness and fruity notes. Full bodied, slightly tingly and a touch dry.

Harpoon created the 100 Barrel series, which I appreciate very much. It's nice to see a large brewery give a lot of freedom to their brewmasters. That being said, this barleywine is not up to par. I'm sorry, but it lacks in many aspects. This is more like a sweet IPA than a barleywine. I think Harpoon really needs to grow some testicular fortitude, and brew a real beer. I've tried three of their four 100 barrel series. This is the best of the three that I've tried, but it's still not great. I hope Harpoon continues to tweak these obscure recipes and produces something great.

This was excellent. I had it at the brewery and had to bring some bottles home with me. Full bodied, carmel coloring witha good head. A little sweet taste on the taste buds. This was only my second barley wine so I don't know what I was looking for , but I found a beer that you should get if you can find it.
