Color is a dark burnt red thats hard to see through. A small head. Alcohol hits like medicine syrup off the bat but has since mellowed out.....Aroma is funky in a fermenting hay/dirty underwear kinda way, still it does have plenty of character. A big malt taste, like Dr. Pepper and BBQ and a nice dose of hops to balance

Dec 2003 offering You know, this is quite good, but rating it against other Barleywines, it's okay. Pours a dark brown with no head but some lacing. Scent is mostly of dark fruits; cherries, apricots, dates and plums. On the plus side, the alcohol isn't over-powering Taste is also mainly of the darker fruits; dates, cherries and plums, but there is a hop presence. The alcohol is more apparent here. Mouthfeel has a nice bite and isn't as astringent as most. There's a faint but nice mineral sensation as well. Overall this is okay but far from great. It's a nice change from the other Barleywines out there, though, and worth trying.

Pours with a brown body topped by a thin head with some lacing. It’s sweet and malty with candy sugar and caramel notes and an underlying hoppy note. Full bodied, smooth and warming.

Dark brown color. Small white foamy head. Aroma is dark fruity, caramel, brown sugar and molasses. A full bodied barley wine. Malts are fruity, caramel, chocolate and sweet. Hops are grapefruity and herbal. A rich tasting malty barleywine. Has a surprising amount of hoppiness, yet still has a mostly malty flavor. Nicely balanced. Very sweet. Nice English style barleywine. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter, with a touch of alcohol bite.
