This ale pays homage to the Irish who settled on Kilgubbin Island, in Chicago over one-hundred years ago. Made in the Irish tradition, Kilgubbin is brewed with roast barley and chocolate malts giving it a rich ruby color. A touch of malted rye gives it a spicy finish.

Appearance clear amber red with thin white head that rims around the glass. Aroma mostly malty, toffee does come out a bit, slight yeast presence. Taste is nice and crisp with malty backing. Medium body, medium carbonation. Solid brew.

Pours a dark red with an off-white head. Aroma is mostly malty with hints of smoke and sweetness. Taste is malty to start but finishes with a slight bitter hop kick. Solid but not spectacular.

"This was a really nice red ale. I liked it because it resembled a Killian's Irish Red, but with an American twist. Ive never been disappointed with Goose Island before, they are great."

Pours hazey reddish mahogany colour. Head is decente sized tan colour. Aroma is a little smokey with some roasted malts. Taste is a little watery initial but strengthens in taste all the way through the palate.

Goose Island is one of my favorite "regular" brewers so I was delighted to spot this offering a couple weeks after St. Patty's Day. Decent Irish Ale and another solid brew by this company but many of their other offerings are heads above this one. Brownish copper colored pour with a light red tint mixed in, 1/2" head that soon vanishes leaving minimal spots of lace on the glass. A touch of lightly roasted malt to the nose, nutty with a mild dose of aromatic hops. Lighter bodied and very crisp, shy aftertaste. Flavor is toasted malt with the familiar underlying Goose Island maltiness. Maybe a touch of honey and citrus but very faint indeed. Good session ale.

Sampled from bottle. Pours clear mahogony with nice lacing and a small head. Sublte fruit in the aroma. The flavor is well-balanced with some toasted bread and a hint of coffee. Medium-bodied and lightly carbonated. A great session beer.
