The whale had finally been opened and I was able to enjoy a healthy sample. Great looking pour, rich color and billowing head. Malty, woody, with lots of thick caramel, vanilla and dark fruit highlights. Medium bourbon influence which really rounded out the brew. Worth an arm and a leg.....no, but it did represent the hype more than I expected by this time.

Wow! Had some of this at Brewer Matt Van Wyk's going away party at the brewpub. Pours a cloudy brown color (looks like prune juice) with a small tan head. Aromas of oak, dark fruit and malt. Dark fruits dominate the taste, along with a nice woody presence. Strong alcohol finish. This was a treat.

Poured a reddish mahogany color with a small, light tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of vanilla oak, bourbon, citrus fruits, and sticky caramel malts. Taste of smoke, dried fruits, caramel malts, citrus fruits, medium bitterness, and medium alcohol in the finish.
