As a finished beer, 13 is more sublime then last year’s blend. It is all about the subtleties and quiet tones. It has deep dark chocolate notes and is accented with dried fruit and licorice. Tere are hints of molasses and even a little cherry in the middle complimenting the vanilla and coconut notes brought in by the oak. These barrel qualities are very well integrated and meld well with the roast malt and caramel undertones. It is best enjoyed in a half filled brandy snifter or wine glass. Allow it to warm to 55F to fully enjoy the pleasing and complex aromas. If left in a cool dark place, I suspect that this beer will age well. It was a pleasure in the making and I truly hope you enjoy our fourth oakaged blend! Recently tried this beer and was not impressed, quite boozy in my opinion. The other aromas and flavours suffered as a result. While I've heard great things aboput this brewery, none of the beers I've tried are anything special to me.

Sampled on 9/2/2012 during an FW 11-15 vertical. This American Strong Ale pours a dark brown color from a 22oz bottle. Small to no head. The aroma is caramel, fruity and sweet. A medium bodied American Strong Ale. The malts are caramel, fruity and sweet. The hops are herbal and earthy. A touch sweet, a little boozy. Kind of thin tasting and very different from both the 11 and 12. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. An interesting tasting. The group consensus was that the was not a whole lot of difference between the 11, 12 and 14, but that the 13 was thin and tasted so different from the others we wondered if they changed the recipe.

Thirteen comes off as a smoother, darker and more robust cousin of eleven. Sultry and deep with vast amounts of bitter chocolate, licorice, vanilla, oak and rum. Tasty.

Caramel, rich caramel oak and toffee. A brew truly to be enjoyed. I am only enjoying this brew because I am deployinng in 5 weeks and cannot wait. If I am to enjoy this brew, I will do it as I am alive to do so. This is an amazing brew. Period. Simlpy. Slainte!!!

A good friend brought me this beer a few months ago, so naturally, I had to try it. A very dark brown pour, almost black. Decent sized brown head, that sadly dies quickly. The aroma is all over the place with roasted malt, alcohol, chocolate, more alcohol, and a hint of vanilla. The flavour is very much on the sweet side with the vanilla and alcohol showing through. Not a beer I'll ever try again, but not something I'm sad about either.

Birthday beer #2. Bottle, home. Why you gotta be so good, Firestone Walker 13? If I spill this beer, I’m going to lick it off the floor. It’s big, luxurious and delicious. It reminds me of Port’s Older Viscosity, one of my favorite beers, for its velvety feel and lush, barrel-aged pleasure. It pours black with a small dissipating head. The aroma is brandy, rich malt, cocoa, vanilla bean, espresso and brown sugar. The flavor is relatively sweet, but it works very well with the flavor. There’s a lot of oak and wood throughout the beer. It’s just a really nice blend. This is a treat and a nice slow sipper. Great beer

Holy Crap - check out what this beer is made of... 39% Parabola (13% abv) bourbon barrel imperial oatmeal stout 24% Bravo (11%) bourbon AND brandy barrel imperial brown 15% Velvet Merkin (6%) bourbon barrel oatmeal stout 6% Opal (11%) wheat wine aged in rye barrels 6% Rufus (11%) imperial amber ale aged in rye barrels 6% Double Double Barrel Ale (10.9%) aged in FW union barrels 4% Saucerful of Secrets (9%) belgian strong ale aged in bourbon barrels Maybe overkill with that many base beers, but I REALLY can't argue with thr result. Smells, feels and tastes amazing. Decadent is the best word to describe this bad boy. Aroma is strong bourbon, vanilla & chocolate, but with other aspects not drowned out...tobacco/leather, woody, roasted malts. greeat smooth feel, full & round. obviously quite dark with decent choclatey head retention. awesome complex flavor as well. expertly blended. the rye barrels peek through just a bit and lend another level of complexity to this great beer. in the end, though, while i love the sum of all the parts, it's the assertive but not overdone bourbon barreling that really shines. Awesome stuff! Reminds me of Palo Santo in that it's a super complex dark beer that defies style...but barrel aged!!!
