Tawny Bitter was the first beer to be produced by the newly started Cotleigh Brewery back in 1979. Today it is still the brewery's leading brand and is undoubtedly one of the most popular pints in the West Country. Tawny bitter is brewed using local malted barley and English whole hops. A distinctive, well- balanced traditional bitter, Tawny Bitter has been a finalist in the Champion Beer of Britain competition on two occasions, and twice been chosen as a CAMRA Good Beer Guide "Beer of the Year".

Pours thin. Smells like feet and malt. Looks like carbonated piss. Mouthfeel is absent. Tastes like water, apricots and shit. Finish is of cabbage and raw sewage. Too bad. I looked forward to this one.

A dull, orange colored beer with a nice big creamy textured, white head rising above. There was some hang time. Swettles into a thin ringlet and splotches of film. A full bodied, smooth on the palate. The nose and tasting are sour mash, just the way I like it.

Clear amber. Chemical aroma of swimmingpool, dishwater, notes of nutshells and keaves. Thin and lightly chemical flavour of soap, hints of diacetyl and nutshells. Short and bitter finish of roasted grains.
