Bottle conditioned. Formerly contract brewed by Brakspear. Currently contract brewed at Hepworth for Beer Counter, under the supervision of Peter Scholey, former Brakspear head brewer. The ingredients and abv are different to the CAMRA Supreme Champion cask ale which continues to be brewed by Coniston. Ingredients: Maris Otter and crystal malt; Challenger hops - mainly at the end of the boil. BLUEBIRD is a fine session ale with a light golden colour. The intense resinous and spicy hop character which is the beer’s hallmark is derived from the use of unusual quantities of English Challenger hops, each bale being individually and personally selected by the brewer. The malt is, of course, Maris Otter fermented slightly warm to give a soft fruitiness with a faint hint of scented geranium.

I picked this up from the Wine Gourmet in Roanoke, VA. Smells fruity, a bit bready, color is a darker gold, feel is somewhat slick, flavor is a tad hayish - barnyardy - some fruits (maybe apricotbanana). It is decent but for the money, I'd rather have a Boddington's or a Harvey's Best Bitter or Armada Ale.

A little better than the XB save for the aroma, but this is slightly more complex and flavorful. Still not a standout instyle or worth the price, though, IMO. Live and learn...

Bottle, kindly shared by gunnar. ABV is 4.2%. Deep golden to orange colour, moderate white head. Moderate aroma of malts and toffee, hints of berries. The flavour has moderate malts, toffee, biscuits and nuts. Decent Challenger hops in the finish.

It pours a hazy-golden with thin white head and some lace. Aroma of ginger, malts, light hops, citrus, cork(bitter), and mild spice. The mouthfeel is smooth and rich. Flavors of rich malts, hops, corky bitterness, light ginger, limes and citrus, and mild spices. Great brew!

Sampled on draught today at the Malt House: poured a crystal clear, vibrant golden colour with a medium sized white head. Nice and malty, but a bit too much malt for my liking. Not as bitter as i would've liked actually, maybe the super bitter stuff is more American in style? anyway, nice brew, but nothing special.

Bottle courtesy of durhambeer. Pours gold with a thin white head. Smells of dry malt, some light citrus. Tastes of hay, dry malt, light pepper. A touch of bitterness is present on the finish.

It pours into the glass a slightly cloudy dark amber, very inviting. Aroma is fairly malty and has some good hops hints. Flavor is bitter but not nastily so, has both hoppy and malty components, a little thin but still pleasant and satisfying. A good lunch beer.

500ml bottle. Pours a hazy golden orange with a thin white head that quickly recedes to a thin film.

The aroma is sweet malts and some light floral, slightly metallic, hops.

The flavor is sweet bready malts with some light hops that leave a dry finish. The mouthfeel is medium with a good amount of carbonation.

Overall, a decent bitter/session ale but it's pretty subdued and not very interesting.

Hazy orange colour, mediumsized creamy white head. A bit acidic and barnyardish hops in aroma. Flavour is harsh hayish hoppy. Also some apricot and other fruits. Not too good, felt unbalanced.

From a 500 ml bottle. Nice warm golden coloured ale with a small bubbly off white head. Small amounts of gentle carbonation visible. Very English style malt aromas , but nicelly done and surprisingly fresh smelling for an example all the way over here in Oregon. Taste is a litle bit hoppy to begin, but almost immediatlly nice caramel/buiscuity malts take over, finishes off fruity . Nice smooth mouthfeel real silky. A very nice example of the style..certainlly not a "big" beer but a tasty one and its low alcohol lends well to it being a great session choice..if one could afford it at the price.
