pours a nice dark reddish color with a healthy white head which really really hangs around. A nice aroma of caramel, malts and a bit of nut. Beer has a nice caramel toffee taste that is nicely carbonated. Nice drinkability. I believe this to be the original (alias) name for what they are now calling Columbus Scottish Ale.

A dark amber to brown appearance with a soapy white head. The aroma is a little odd with some nutmeg and caramel. The flavor is rather nutty with some caramel showing through. The palate is a bit thin. Overall it was ok.

From notes. As the bottle states, this pours a dark ruby red with a with a huge three fingers worth of foam, even with a gentle pour. The head takes a good while to fade to a thick cap, leaving behind a solid sheet of lace. Smell; rich caramel and bread dough malts stand pretty nicely, with a bit of a nutty aroma as well. Behind everything though, is a dusty/yeasty aroma that throws it all off a bit. Taste; caramel, toffee and toasted biscuits get things started, but there’s also a bit of roasted coffee bean flavor as well. Not much in the way of a hop presence, but I wasn’t really expect much to begin with, and in the finish there’s a nice earthiness that I’m really liking right now. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a slightly biting carbonation, and a pretty good drinkability. A bit of a different take on a Scottish ale, and a beer that might not work for me every day, but it did today.
