Fergus Mor: the legendary king of Dal Riata was the founder of Scotland according to Medieval and Renaissance myth. Rulers of Scotland throughout its history have claimed descent from Fergus Mor. A fitting name for this, the first beer in the Campeador series, a barrel aged collaboration of Cigar City Brewing and Knightly Spirits. Fergus Mor is a blend of Big Sound Scotch Ale and Bolita Brown Ale, topped off with a wee bit of Imperial Stout and aged in a Buffalo Trace bourbon barrel. Limited release of 204 - 750ml bottles.

    Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 9

Pours murky amber with deeply oxidized rusty edges and tan head. The aroma is bold and crafty and full of homer-istic nuances like cedar, some whiskey, vanilla, some smooth sweetly slick oaky goodness and a mild nuttiness in the background. The taste is . . . wow! I get a wave of rich sweet malts and nuttiness initially and then it blends into sweet whiskey and vanilla. Toward midway chocolate and nuttiness come to the front along with splintery cedar wedges. Whiskey booze, vanilla and molasses notes take over the flavor into the finish. Lots of complex stuff going on here in my glass. Fantastic mouth feel.

750ml bottle, waxed, #97/204, 2009. Pours a murky brown with a small creamy light tan head that quickly goes to a thin film that leaves some lacing.

The aroma is peaty, smokey malts and a lot of bourboney alcohol with a little dark fruit and vanilla.

The flavor is dark fruits and some sweet caramel, vanilla, and smokey/peaty malts with quite a bit of alcohol in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with low carbonation.

Overall, it's a well made beer. The bourbon is just a bit too much for me. Thanks Solan!

Pours a murky brown with a fine head, low lacing .. . wonderful aroma of chocolate vanilla, oak, light whiskey, creamy molasses, disney magic, sweet wood, and light fun brown malts.. . a dangerous level in terms of the mouth, full enough to bring in the praise and general enjoyment with a truly easy level of drinking .. . this is great great stuff, lovely aftertaste, finishes like an ace.. . CCB will turn heads with special brews like this... honored to have tried it.. .
