In seeking to commemorate the process of opening a brewery, I wanted to build a recipe on my favorite style – the Barleywine. In this attempt, I am starting with the development of a solid grain bill before working up to the higher ABV’s I seek – so this recipe could not be called “F’n G” quite yet… hence “L’il Cusser”. He’s been a naughty boy, fermenting for over 2 months to clock in at a warming 10.1% ABV (the final version will be several points higher). Initial feedback has been strong, mostly commenting on the smoothness and lack of “heavy alcohol” taste.

Poured up on tap at the brewery where it exhibits and opaque deep copper body that supports a thin tan head. The aroma offers grassy hops, biscuit like malts and a touch of roasted malts. The taste delivers grainy malts, biscuit malts, a molasses note and then modest grassy to floral hoppy bitterness. It warms nicely into the finish where the malts and hops really come together creating a pleasing sipping experience.
