KINGPIN is a full-flavored, red-colored ale that uses a rarely-grown Willamette Valley Hop varietal known as Liberty Hops from fourth generation hop farmer John Annen of Annen Bros. Farm in Silverton, Oregon. Jeff and his team of brewers also used rye and caramel malt leading to a unique flavor profile; triple-hopped for bitter aroma and a unique dry-hopped character.

A dark orange color with an off white head. The aroma contains some alcohol notes along with caramel, citrus, rye, and some perfume. The flavor is rather malty more so than hoppy with some caramel, dark fruit, and some citrus in the finish. Grapefruit maybe? Overall this is pretty good but nothing special.

Comes out of the tap a clear, dark amber with a fluffy and persistent cream-yellow, fine-bubbled head. Fruity aroma has malty and woody undertones. Woody, fruity, malty flavor has earthy and caramel hints - quite tasty. Firm-bodied texture is fizzy and lively. A kingpin indeed!

Sampled from bottle. Pours copper with a faint haze and a quickly diminishing head. Sour apple note in the aroma. Very simple profile. Other than being strong, I'm wasting my time here...

looking at the other reviews, sounds like this one might not be old like i thought, just a little on the bland side for a "triple hopped double red ale". a little orange-ish citrus and caramel malt. a little thin for the abv. not bad, but a little dsiappointing after the build-up. About average for a red.

It pours a dark copper with a thick white/light-brown head and copious lacing. An aroma of caramel malts, light hops, light citrus, bread and yeast, and some spice. The mouthfeel is smooth and rich. Flavors of caramel malts, hops, orange and citrus, bitterness, bread and yeast, and spices. Solid and great-tasting.

quite an alarming smell- like cold brandy .. great foam, pretty damn good lacing also .. . dark murky tan .. . nicely balanced, a bit from both sides .. . pretty good actually, a touch boozy but pretty drinkable .. .
I caught my wife in bed with my best friend.

Sampled on 4/8/2011. This American Strong Ale pours a medium red color from a 12oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is bready and malty with some piney and floral hops. A medium bodied American Strong Ale. The malts are caramel and sweet. The hops are piney and floral. Decent carbonation. Nice balance. Nice hoppy finish. Bitterness kind of builds and lingers. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

12oz bottle. Pours a reddish amber with a medium creamy off-white head that retains well and laces the glass.
The aroma is a bit subdued - sweet bready caramel and crystal malts with some pine and resin hops and a touch of fruit.
The flavor is sweet caramel malts and rye with some green resiny hops in that have decent bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low sharp carbonation.
Overall, an OK hoppy red. Nothing too special though.
