The Beau’s brewers teamed up with our friends Van and Ben from Gigantic Brewing in Portland to brew this American-style barleywine, made with two metric tonnes of pale ale malt and eight patient hours of boil time. This limited-edition beer was created to say “Cheers!” to Beau’s 10th Birthday. Raise a glass and help us celebrate 10 great years! The long-boil method is the traditional way that British brewers used to make barleywine. Like toasting or searing food, the technique increases the Maillard reaction taking place during the boil, transforming the wort from its original golden hue to a deep copper. It also intensifies the treacle-like and caramel flavours of the beer.

Thanks to PaleAleRider for picking this up at the brewery. Pours a deeper amber colour with a warm-beige cap, good retention and some decent lacing. Sweet malty aromas with some butterscotch, nutty notes, dark fruits and even soya sauce. Loads of dark fruits like raisins, molasses in the taste. Alcohol is present in the finish, but in a nice warming way. Quite nice for this winter weather. Pretty rich overall.

Picked up a bottle at the brewery. Pours a huge frothy beige head that sticks around for quite a while. Has an amber coppery appearance. Some pretty decent sticky lacing. Aromas of toasted and bready malts, resin and earthy hops. Flavours of dry fruit, raisins, plums. Some notes of spices, toasty and bready malts. Hints of vanilla. Alcohol is very well hidden, at 10.5%, it's not too noticeable. Good retention and average mouthfeel.
