This extra-light beer delivers a delicious, full-flavoured craft beer experience without compromise. The recipe is modeled on our popular Lug Tread, so expect a satisfying, balanced and tasty lagered ale, with less alcohol. Finally, a light beer that actually tastes like beer! History & Style Beau’s Lug Tread is the original Ontario lagered ale, first brewed in 2006. It is top-fermented like an ale and then cold-aged like a lager, giving it light ale notes complemented by a lager-like crispness. We’ve created Lug Tread 2.5 to allow craft beer fans to choose a well-made, tasty lagered ale when they want something light. Available year-round! Tasting Notes Lug Tread 2.5 pours a light gold with white foam. A blend of barley malts and wheat delivers fresh grain/cereal flavour and satisfying mouthfeel. Mild herbal and orchard fruit notes lead into a clean lager finish. Refreshingly light and crisp.

Not a bad smell with full cereal grain malts. Very slightly unfiltered, light bright yellow colour with a creamy slight warm cap, good retention and some creamy-streak lacing. Big hops do come out eventually in the nose, with some grapes and mild honey notes. Gets hazier as it pours. Not sure if with time this one turns sweeter, but getting a rich, not thick though, sweeter mouthfeel instead of hoppy like most hoppy light beers nowadays. Again, grape juices and light honey. Not getting this, so the original Lug Tread is more of my go-to... with a glass of water in between them if I want this low alcohol feel.

Tall can from LCBO. Pours a big foamy white head with thick soapy lace and has a clear straw coloured appearance. Aromas of grainy malts, a bit of corn and wheats. Subtle grass and herbal hop notes. Flavours are mostly grainy and cereal malt, herbal and grassy hops. For a lower abv version, still retains enough of the flavour to be enjoyable, especially during the summer. Not bad.

The beer pours a translucent gold colour with a huge frothy white head which only lasts a few minutes. Nice to see a non-hazy beer. The aroma is grainy malt, herbal hops, and plenty of yeasty notes. There is definitely a bready character here. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with average carbonation, most certainly a crisp mouthfeel. The flavour is grainy malt, offset by some hop bitterness. While I find Beau’s to be all over the place with their beers, they set out to create a low alcohol product that tastes like beer, and they’ve succeeded. It’s still not my cup of tea so to speak.
