This original amber ale is inspired by the "Steam" style of beer. Whereas a "Steam" is a lager beer fermented at an elevated ale-type temperature, Red Rose is an ale fermented at a lower lager-type temperature . Like a "Steam," Red Rose combines a crisp lager refreshingness with a robust ale fruitiness.

This bottle was my first ever beer explosion since I started reviewing on here. Pours a nice crisp amber with a massive head that goes down fairly fast. Very well carbonated. Aroma is hoppy, fruity, and sweet. Also has the nice floral scent of flowers. Taste is fairly mild, with nice bitter notes and maltyness. Also a hint of nuttyness in the flavor. A bit thin but it isn't bad. I like it. (note: this was an old bottle so I rated it higher than it was. bet is awesome fresh)

It pours a dark and hazy copper with a thick white head and copious lacing. An aroma of pretty rich caramel malts, hops, citrus fruits, candied apples, brown sugar, and spiciness. The mouthfeel is smooth, slightly thin. Flavors of caramel malts, hops, citrus, candied apples, brown sugar, and mildly spicy. Excellent! .. I can't believe it was on the clearance rack!

Sampled on 6/2/2011. This California Common Ale pours a slightly hazy deep amber reddish color from a 12oz bottle. Medium sized white foamy head, with decent lacing and nice retention. The aroma is caramel, fruity and sweet. A medium bodied California Common. The malts are fruity, caramel and sweet, with a touch of tartness. The hops are floral and earthy. Nice carbonation. Decent balance. This beer has the malty sweetness of an amber and the soft mouthfeel of a steam beer. There is a touch of tartness here, kind of goes well with the other flavors. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Holy crap! Not what I have ever has in an amber! Bitter, but fruity, like raspberries, and a bit tart! like rubharb. Malty bready, yeasty, like light christmas cake that has too many cherries and not enough dried fruit. Seems thin in the mouth yet nothing seems to lack. It really is not your average amber in any way. A floral note. Mineral water. Lively and exciting. I will get more and expand on this, as it is now gone....
