Kinda easy drinking for a BW, which is both good and bad. Covers up the abv quite well. Definitely sweet leaning...a year or two old. Prunes, caramel, dark fruit. Not a lot of depth, but pretty tasty. A session barleywine, perhaps?

2009 Vintage: A few years of cellar time could turn this into a beauty, fresh it's solid at best. Nice aromas of plums, raisin, tart cherries, molasses and bran. Relatively flat pour, mottled amber brown in color with little head and spotty lacing. Filling and smooth with a thick sweet finish. This is a malt bomb, heavy and viscous. Dark fruits, creamy malts, brown sugar, toffee, nuts, honey and syrup.

now how many people bought this for the name or label? i wonder, anyway to the review ... 2006: aged 2 years ... rum, chocolate, cherry, aged oak in the nose ... lots of dark fruits, honey, cherry skins in the teeth and tongue department ... great looking beer, good hot cocoa head ... mellowed still has "the LooK" (40 games, that's 80 looks) ... a real nice barleywine that has aged quite nicely ...

Pours out in a cloudy reddish brown colour with a small off-white foam. Sweetish and really malty of caramel, milky chocolate, raisins, candied red berries and figs. Full-bodied with a rounded malty sweet flavour of cocoa, caramel, figs, fudge and raisins. Creamy mouthfeel. Long warming finish of fudge, raisins and alcohol. A surprisingly malty Barley Wine, very British.

Bottle. Poured a cloudy purplish-brown color with a medium almond head. Strong lacing. Aroma is really sweet with a caramel and fruit scent to it, with a bit of hops. Nice mouthfeel. Flavor is disappointing. Too sweet for my liking. Very fruity and not hoppy enough for my liking. Very sugary. Probably my least favorite of the Arcadia "big beers."

Ruby colour, small head. Aroma is caramel, malts, some wood, hops and alcohol. Slightly wineous. Flavour is hoppy, caramelly, slightly alcoholic and some burnt sugar.

This barleywine pours a medium brown gold color from a 22oz bottle. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is malty and sweet, touch of brown sugar. Medium bodied barley wine. Malts are caramel and sweet, touch of brown sugar and vanilla. More in the English style of Barleywine. It was a touch sweet and a touch thin for a big Barleywine. Mouthfeel is a touch thin and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

NorCal tasting July 07 - One of the better named beers available. Unfortunately, the beer doesn't quite live-up to the great name. Caramel dominates the nose on this barleywine with a sweetness that pretty much out shines anything else trying to escape, aside from the alcohol. The beer is the color of melted caramel chews with a small white head. Thin mouthfeel. The flavor of this beer is unfortunately really one dimensional with a ton of caramel sweetness coming thru like a runaway train. It's not bad, but pretty basic. Alcohol also in the flavor. Not bad if you only want a barleywine without much character. I guess it succeeds in being "English" in style.

An amber apperance. Quite a bit of alcohol showing through in the nose. An orange, caramel, and alcohol flavor to the beer. The finish is somewhat sweet. A pretty good one.
