Porte Noir is one of two beers (the other being Papier Doré) specially mixed by our brewmaster and the Beer Advocate team for the Return of the Belgian Beer Fest. The age of the beers in this blend vary from six months old to five years old and come from small barrels, foudres, and stainless vessels. Porte Noir is a gingerbread-colored beer with an earthy aroma of mocha, cherry, and black currant. Its flavor is defined by two dominant notes: Concord grape and crisp bread crust. Both Brettanomyces and Lactic acid are used during fermentation.
