Pretty pricey for a regular bottle but with more than twice the abv (11%)of a regular one too! Poured a very hazy dark amber colour, with not much head and ok lacing. Almost looks like mango juice. Very strong aromas, barley malts, caramel, dry fruits. Flavour is very strong, a bit of alcohol is apparent, dark roasted malts, bitterness with the spices, sugary sweetness. Really has a smokey mouthfeel, a faint burnt feeling. This is definitely a one shot deal. Pretty good, just a bit too expensive.

hmm. Pours orange amber with little to no head. Aroma is faint. Mouthfeel has a bit of alcohol bite. Flavor is sugary sweet malt. WOW this is at a HIGH pricepoint and unfortunately it pales in comparison to so many others.

Reddish brown out of the bottle with a small tan coloured head. Aroma is sweet malt, candied sugar, and a little alcohol. Flavour is slightly sweet, not too overpowering

First of two barleywines rated tonight. This one is double the price of the other though (Simple Malt Vin d'Orge). Notched bottom label indicating it was bottled on September 2009. Pours a beautiful clear and bright amber-orange with big bubble carbonation. The frothy off-white head is decent size, but goes down quicker than average, leaving some patchy lacing. Aromas of fruits (dark mostly with some oranges), sweet malt, brown sugar, toffee and smoke. Yes, they say this beer might contain "smoked herring". The carbonation balances itself out after a while. Soft textured and smooth mouthfeel. Just like the nose, the taste is pretty complex as well, but well-balanced, finding the same things. Grainy, fruity, with no alcohol burn, but burnt wood in the aftertaste. Kind of a nice mix between a rauchbier and a barleywine.

Bottle: Poured a medium amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and light lacing. Aroma of sweet caramel malt with very thin notes of salt. Taste is not as complex as I had hoped with some caramel malt and not much help. The smoke notes that was supposed to be present is very hard to distinguish and the salty notes are also very hard to find. Body is about average with good carbonation with no alcohol appearance. Not bad but not worth the price tag.
