176 | Ayinger Celebrator Dopplebock | Germany | Doppelbock | 4.6
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 10 | Overall: 9 Too bad this beer isn't available year rtound because I could drink this every day. A beautiful dark brown pour with a mid-sized off-white head enters the glass. Fresh baked bread, plums, and chocolate are the primary aromatic components. Flavour is fantastic for the style with a well balanced palate between the malty sweetness,m and the bitter hoppish finish. I love this beer. |

177 | Birra Moretti La Rossa | Italy | Doppelbock | 3.6
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 Italian dopplebocks are quite rare, and this one isn’t that bad. A reddish brown pour with beige coloured head. The aroma is very malty with notes of sweet dark fruit, some rasted malt, nuts, and caramel. The beer has a malty sweetness to it that isn’t overpowering, yet at the same time has a dry nuttiness to it as well. |

178 | Tree Captivator Dopplebock | Canada | Doppelbock | 3.7
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 7 A local find at the liquor store. I've tried it before but not rated it. A rusty brown pour with a thick off-white cap. Cap sticks around until the end. Lots of dark fruits (plums, raisins) in the aroma as well as notes of yeast, caramel, and burnt molasses. Flavour is on the sweet side for me with the caramel/fruit notes very strong. Not bad for a Canadian brewed doppelbock. |

179 | Guinness Stout | Ireland | Dry Stout | 4.6
Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9 This is a go to beer for just about everybody I know. I can't really complain about that as it is my go to beer as well when I visit places that don't have any non-BMC on tap. There is nothing new to what's already been said about this about this beer that I can add. Just an all round very good beer. As it is the stout by which all other stouts are measured (according to Stone Brewing's Greg Koch) I have to give it a 10 for appearance! |

180 | Guinness Draught | Ireland | Dry Stout | 4.6
Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 10 | Overall: 9 I find it hard to believe that I am opnly getting around to rating this now having had it hundreds of times in the past 40 years. Well, it's the stout by which all stouts are measured, so by that statement, it should get a 10 for everything....shouldn't it? I'll be quick about this. Appearance is dark brown with black edges and a huge creamy light brown head. The nose is rooasted malt, and coffee...good coffee. Flavour is a nice balance of roasted malt and bitter goldings. Can't beat it. |

182 | C'est What Burnt Offering Harvest Ale | Canada | Dry Stout | 4.1
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 I’ve heard there were only a couple of kegs of this made (I could be wrong, Toronto is a place I try to avoid) so I’m lucky I got to try it. An almost black beer with a brown creamy head. Unlike Big Butt, the smokiness in this one was less than subtle, but still not overpowering. The flavour was roasted malt, smoked meat, and weak coffee. |

183 | Hockley Valley Stout | Canada | Dry Stout | 2.1
Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 A classic interpretation or an Irish Dry Stout, even at the same ABV as a Guinness. But that is where the comparison ends because Guinness rocks and Hockley rots! The beer pours a very dark brown colour, almost black, with a thin bubbly head, certainly not as creamy as a traditional dry stout. The aroma was roasted malt, nuts, and coffee. The flavour was more nutty than it was roasted malt/coffee flavoured, that sort of put me off too! |

184 | Murphy's Irish Stout | Ireland | Dry Stout | 3.2
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 I tried this recently after having known it existed for the last 50 years, and was kind of disappointed to find out it is now a Heineken product. Oh well. It isn’t that bad of a stout however. A very dark brown beer with a cap that’s light tan coloured and creamy. Typical Irish stout aroma of coffee and chicory and little else. Flavour falls in line too. I wish I had tried it 30 years ago. |

185 | Mill Street Cobblestone Stout | Canada | Dry Stout | 2.9
Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 This is a beautiful looking black beer. A true stout. The aroma is rather weak, although there is some definite coffee hints. The mouthfeel is disappointing as well, weaker than a stout should be. The flavour is also somewhat watered down, matching the mouthfeel. |

187 | Baltika 4 (Original) | Russia | Dunkel / Dark Lager | 2.1
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4 Purchased at the Liquor Control Board of Ontario Store. This is a weak dunkel from one of Eastern Europe’s largest breweries. It pours a solid reddish brown with an off-white head. The aroma is caramel malt, weak grains, and weak earthy hops. The flavour is very grainy with weak caramel notes. |

188 | Erdinger Weissbier Dunkel (Hefe-Weizen Dark) | Germany | Dunkel Weizen | 4.0
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 Dunkelweizens when well made can be a favourite. Fortunately, Erdinger makes a good one. A dark brown pour, solid in colour, with a light brown creamy head. Aroma is a mix of roasted malt, chocolate, wheat, and bubblegum. The flavour is chocolate, wheat, and spices. A very good beer. |

189 | Hacker-Pschorr Dunkle Weisse | Germany | Dunkel Weizen | 3.8
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 The beer pours a cloudy reddish-gold with a medium sized white cap that lingers. The aroma is roasted malt, caramel, some applish notes, yeast, and earthy hops. The flavour really concentrates on the roasted malt and caramel character with somewhat of a hoppy finish. It really is the dark notes in this one that bring out the flavour however. |

190 | Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier Dunkel | Germany | Dunkel Weizen | 4.7
Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 10 | Overall: 9 There is something comforting about dark hefes and this beer displays it in all its’ splendour. The pour is a murky amber colour with a huge off-white head. Chocolate is added to the typical notes of wheat, clove and banana making for a pleasant smell. The flavour starts sweet and fruity, but the finish is bitter and chocolatey. |

191 | Paulaner Hefeweizen Dunkel | Germany | Dunkel Weizen | 4.0
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 It took me many years of tracking this down to be able to finally taste one, and it was worth it. A nice dark brown pour, murky, with a medium sized cream coloured cap. The aroma is roasted malt, brown sugar, caramel, yeast, and spices. The flavour is sweet caramel/brown sugar up front, but there is a lingering hoppy finish, |

192 | Schneider Weisse Aventinus Weizen-Eisbock | Germany | Eisbock | 4.4
Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8 THis deep mahogany pour is one awesome beer. A thin tight tan head tops it off....wisps of sweet wheat malt, banana and compliment one another as it tingles on the senses. A slightly sweet flavour greets the tongue with hints of light fruit followed by a bitter finish. Very little alcohol evidence for 12% |

193 | Alley Kat Olde Deuteronomy Barleywine | Canada | English Barleywine | 4.0
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8 This beer appears copper coloured in the glass, off-white head, very attractive. The aroma is hops and caramel with some hints of malt. The mouthfeel is full-bodied, mildly carbonated, and dry. The flavour is hoppy with a white grapefruit finish. |

194 | Mill Street Barley Wine | Canada | English Barleywine | 3.4
Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7 I've had the opportunity to try the 2003,2004, and 2005 variations of this beer, although if truth be told, the variation between the vintages was less than I've encountered among bottles of Budweiser in the same case. The beer pours a reddish brown with a tan head. The aroma has malt up front, but a few more whiffs and you notice the extra spicy sweetness. The flavour is malty with less of spiciness found in the aroma. |

195 | McAuslan St. Ambroise Millésimée / McAuslan St. Ambroise Vintage Ale | Canada | English Barleywine | 4.5
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 10 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 10 | Overall: 9 Who doesn’t like a good barleywine? Everybody I know loves a good strong well made barleywine. This is one of Canada’s finest barleywines. It pours a clear rust colour with a creamy thin light brown coloured cap. Lots of caramel and sweet malt in the aroma with hints of dark fruit and herbal hops. Flavour is a nice balance between the sweet caramel and toffee notes and the earthy hoppy and spice notes. Highly recommended. |

197 | Durham Signature Ale | Canada | English Pale Ale | 3.1
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6 This is the only beer I’ve seen from Durham in bottles. A light copper colour, clear, with a thin white head. Aroma is earthy hops, cereal malt, and yeast. Flavour is a nice balance between the malty sweetness and the hoppy bitterness but the feeling is that something is missing, it doesn’t hit you like it should. |

198 | Wellington S.P.A. (Special Pale Ale) | Canada | English Pale Ale | 2.7
Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5 This beer is a pale ale in name only as it’s a solid amber colour with a huge white head. Quite a bit of effervescence. Aroma is weak and almost non-descript. There are bready malts and perfumy hops present, but nothing overpowering. The flavour is bland and non-offensive but nothing that makes you gag. |

199 | Moosehead Boundary Ale | Canada | English Pale Ale | 1.7
Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 3 From the files of ‘what the hell we’re they thinking’ comes this beer that was better left in the mind of the person that concocted it. It pours a translucent rust colour with no head. Lots of caramel in the aroma, but no citrus. Flavour is more sweet than I would like, mainly because there is no bitter hop finish to balance it out. |

200 | Renaissance Perfection | New Zealand | English Pale Ale | 3.7
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7 So, the American Pale Ale is under strength, and an over strength English Pale Ale is their so called perfection. Nope, can't tell that New Zealand's a Commonwealth country. A deep amber pour, slightly hazed, is topped off by a thin cream coloured cap. Aroma has some floral hop notes, some caramel, and some grains. Not very inviting. Flavour however is very well balanced between the hops and malt and is quite good, yet somehow, still not perfect. |
